Glad the full scores are now often on Spotify before the CD releases.

Amen. Maybe the death knell for CDs but as a consumer it's saved me a lot of money on things that wouldn't get listened to much.

You really have to be hardcore into CDs to buy The Rendezvous for $15 when you can get a lossless download from Austin Wintory's bandcamp for $5.

Yep, our little community is still CD > download.

And who would buy an LP for 30 or 40 USD when they can get a CD for 10?

And who would pay a million dollars for the opportunity to travel into outer space on a commercial shuttle when you can google pictures like the below for free?

It all depends on the experience you're looking for and what you're willing to pay for it.

Huh? Experience? The experience is identical between listening to lossless download or CD. Especially because most people will end up ripping the CD to their computer and listening to that lossless rip. But hey I hope Varese sells the CDs but I'm going to stick with lossless downloads.

The experience of receiving the CD in the mail, holding it in your hands, tearing off the cellophane, discovering the disc art, carefully sliding out the liner notes and thumbing through them as your new music begins to play.

The experience of sliding your new CD into its spot on the shelf in its rightful place in your collection or arranging it so that the cover art becomes an aesthetic part of your decor.

The experience of selling the CD for all of your money back or close to it (or even for far, far more in some cases!) when it no longer pleases you or when you feel so inclined.

I have no shelf. My CDs are in large cases that have room for each one to take up minimal space. I have given up on all of that in favor of space-saving.

Then your experience is not identical to that of mine and some others, and more cost-and-space-effective lossless files indeed seem to be the better option for you.

I've gone the lossless download route whenever possible, whenever possible. Space issues come before staring at plastic cases containing shiny silver discs. For me, the music is everything. I never play a CD, more convenient to rip into itunes.

I've gone the lossless download route whenever possible, as well, whenever possible. Space issues come before staring at plastic cases containing shiny silver discs. For me, the music is everything. I never play a CD, more convenient to rip into itunes.

I have more confidence that music playback from a CD in my $1000 CD player on my surround system will have better quality than from the FLAC converter on my much cheaper media playback device that is hooked up to my receiver. Also I prefer using CDs in my car too but I understand the convenience of storage of lossless files and for mp3 players which is also a good proportion of my listening.
