'The Voice of the Moon', (according to Amazon's description), was Federico Fillini's last film that played out of competition in Cannes in 1990, but failed to get an American distributor. Due out very soon from Amazon, I'm intrigued because, well, it was his LAST film, and I love Fellini. Strange I've never heard of it, anywhere before. And no one has reviewed it on Amazon, which seems to indicate it was primarily seen only in Europe. Have any of you seen this film? The score was written by Nicola Piovanni, of who's works I own 2 titles.
The ONLY drawback for me is that it stars Roberto Benigni. (Oh, the horror!)

It must have had some kind of US distribution because I saw it within a year of its European release at a theater in Los Angeles (Beverly Hills, actually). My recollection is that Benigni's relatively restrained in it. I also recall Fellini making references to some of his own earlier films. At the time I found it enjoyable enough but certainly not up to the director's best achievements. I was surprised to find a Michael Jackson song used prominently in one scene!

Whatever distribution it did have in the US couldn't have been extensive, though. I think it only played for a few nights in LA, and even at the time it was considered somewhat shocking that a film by a director with the stature of Fellini was given such short shrift.

Horror is having only two Piovani's scores in one's collection.

Seriously! What is wrong with you???
