My copy arrived in London today. I can't wait to play it when I get home tonight but in anticipation, I have already studied the wonderful liner notes from Mike. What with the music, liner notes and the amazing artwork, it really shows off the hardwork which goes into making these releases the high standard that they are!

Mine arrived yesterday listening today. As great as I knew I would be. I was surprised after 35 years that "The Kiss" was actually a source cue. But anyway thank you LLL and I eagerly await CE3K! It's not REALLY a source cue, though. It's like half-and-half, would that be fair to say? It is described as a source cue in the booklet, but at the same time it is acknowledged that it morphs into a very brief statement of the Flying theme. I would have included it in the main program on disc one, but that is easy enough to rectify in my playlist. This is my favorite release of the year, by far!

Well, I got home from a week long work trip to find that ET has been waiting for me since Friday. I excitedly open the wrapping... f'ing jewel case is all cracked. The hinge is cracked so the top won't stay on... the tray is cracked so I have to pull the entire thing out to get to disc two.... I really despise USPS sometimes. You might want to let LLL know - that happened to me once and they replaced it with a new item.

Getting this CD has given the whole thing a new feel again. Like a lot of my early soundtracks, some get to a point where I played them so often, growing up, that a certain fatigue sets in, so ingrained are they to me. Having played the original LP, then CD, then the expansions over and over, this set has enabled me to create a new playlist that adheres to the original music, but feels fresh and new. Here's what I did. I've taken the new alt opening cue from that bonus section (with the incredible/amazing new fanfare bit) and started things off with that. Sounds old but new! Then, as the earlier suspense/softer cues tend to bog down the expanded CD's to me, due to their similarity, I've made E.T & Me (from the original album and sounding fantastic here) the 2nd track on my playlist, to act as an overview of that period of the film. Then, I've put Getting Drunk, Frogs and The Kiss in the right order, before letting that spectacular second half of the score play out as it does in the film (with the added bonus of Stay With Me now being the correct one). I've used the alt End Title from the bonus section to close things, as I love the extra sprinkles. It's 65 minutes worth of musical genius, loyal to the original score, but with some fresh new tinkles to make it all seem a bit new.
