An instant sell-out back in 2009! Intrada re-visits its successful limited release of this rousing Jerry Goldsmith western score! Presented by Walt Disney Productions, One Little Indian casts James Garner, Vera Miles, Pat Hingle, Clay O’Brien, Andrew Prine, young Jodie Foster. Harry Spalding scripts, Bernard McEveety directs… and two camels feature. Garner deserts the Union Army, is caught and returned for execution. Complications ensue, Garner again escapes with young O’Brien, encounters two camels, widow Miles, her daughter Foster… all with Army executioners in pursuit. Goldsmith plays to three distinct elements in the story: richly melodic love theme, humorous outdoor camel play and rousing outdoor western action. Each has reward but spotlight surely goes to energetic opening sequence, “Escort The Prisoner” plus ferocious action of “Hot Fire”, “Go After Him!”. Warm melody, accessible harmony of “Thirsty Boy”, replete with trademark solo trumpet is another highlight. Goldsmith uses sitar with orchestra to underline camel sequences to great effect. Westerns were frequent subjects throughout Goldsmith’s career. One Little Indian was the first Disney picture to feature Goldsmith music. Classic scores for Night Crossing, Baby: Secret Of The Lost Legend and Mulan would follow. Note: Although this new edition does include slight re-mastering and very modest changes to booklet design, contents are identical and owners of Intrada’s 2009 album need not apply. Score was recorded at Walt Disney Scoring Stage in Burbank across two days in April 1973 on 35mm 4-channel stereo elements, then transferred to 2” analog masters for storage in Disney vaults in pristine condition. Intrada engaged Bruce Botnick (Goldsmith’s longtime engineer of choice) to digitally mix elements into crisp stereo for CD release. Dynamic recording shines! Arthur Morton orchestrates, Jerry Goldsmith composes, conducts. Intrada Special Collection CD available while quantities and interest remain!

I am among those who need not apply (I remember standing in the outfield at my sons' little league game and checking my phone to see what the Intrada release was that day, because back then they sold out fast!). But this is a terrific score, and anybody who missed it should get it!

Arthur Morton orchestrates, Jerry Goldsmith composes, conducts.

How about something Morton composes, conducts, Goldsmith orchestrates (or not)

Schiffy is correct. I pounced it when it was released, and I love the score. It shouldn't be missed.

So, they removed a gap in the music for this version? Anyone know which track?

Very nice. No Goldsmith score should be out of price or out of reach for too long a period ( MacArthur, Raggedy Man.. many others).

As one of the few (itself) on this board who doesn't cream themselves over every Goldsmith score....I really enjoy this one. Thankfully it's only a 'minor remastering' (which probably means so small I wouldn't be able to tell anyway) and I can save having to rebuy.

How about something Morton composes, conducts...

I'm pretty sure you were joking, but it brought to mind Arthur Morton's score for a wonderful little noir gem called "Pushover" (1954). It has a neat love theme, and the dramatic scoring is top tier. Morton was not only an extraordinary orchestrator, but a solid composer - I'm all for having some of his own works released someday, providing they exist.

To go back on topic, I adore Goldsmith and I'm pleased to see "One Little Indian" re-released. It's a gem.

Well Screen Archives is advertising the re-release for the current retail price of $19.95, and the original release for $5 dollars less. Which to get?

I'm interested in getting this, but I need to see the movie first. I've only heard the score from a suite on YouTube and have never seen the movie. James Garner himself said the movie wasn't that good, but I'll watch it to hear the score.

If it helps man film scores are much better than the films they are written for.

I own 100's of scores to movies I've never seen mostly because I love the composer.

but maybe go with some sound samples to see if it is something you would like.

It was a serious request put jokingly (I guess Intrada needed some bucks and went with a sure thing). Perhaps not coincidentally, PUSHOVER is one I'd like (I posted a clip years ago here), along with Morton's music for the infamous 1960s BUS STOP TVshow (which some might say sounds like Goldsmith).

Actually there's a BUS STOP episode with a similar plot to PUSHOVER.

Was it a remake or adaptation of "Pushover" or just a similar plot? I loved "Pushover" when I watched it for the first time last year.
