I'll chime in too -- this release prompted me to place a big Intrada order, and I'm glad I did (even though just a few days later they announced their new "10% off your entire order if you buy a One of a Kind item" -- shoot!)

I understand why they put Good Morning, Vietnam on the cover since it is the more well known and critically approved film, but clearly it is the bonus score here, and for me...I liked it. I'm not a huge Alex North fan in general but I think even at its brief length it might make it onto my top 10 favorite North scores. There is some really interesting yet quite accessible writing here.

But once David Newman's brilliant and memorable masterpiece takes over, it's hard to remember anything about the North score. Seriously, I think Operation Dumbo Drop might qualify as one of the best scores of the 90s, and a worthy contender for David Newman's best composition. The orchestral writing is brilliant, the ethnic touches wonderful, and even the incorporation of synths is pretty excellent (aside from a dated section or two). The main theme is fantastic and memorable, particularly well suited to being played in the minor. And I concur with others that this is one of the best sounding score releases ever put out by one of our beloved labels. It just sparkles.

If you are turned off by the title or something else, please ignore that feeling and buy this for yourself. You'll be glad you did.

Yavar

Just wanted to post my thoughts and say what an enjoyable score this from David Newman, it makes for a great companion piece to his score for The Phantom and features such a memorable main theme. Thanks Intrada!

ODD rocks. Just gave this a good listen on my rainy commute this morning. Perfect rainy drive score. “The Jump” is just fantastic. One of film music’s most exhilarating cues. Thanks again Intrada!

Good Bye, Vietnam - Dumbo dropped out of Intrada's catalogue:

GOODBYE, Vietnam? I guess, in one way, that's what the US eventually had to do, though. smile

As previously noted, I'd also pay good money to see a film called VIETNAM DUMBO DROP, with a joint Alex North/David Newman score.

On a more serious note, I love the North portion of the album. Less keen on the Newman.

Agreed on that last note. I love Alex North's music but I always thought he was an unusual choice this movie, his unique symphonic style is an odd fit for comedy.
