Honestly, I had no idea that the BARBARELLA disc I have now is a bootleg; I don't even remember where I got it anymore. Anyway, I tossed the bootleg in the trash, but kept the jewel case, because you can never have too many empty jewel cases.
I see this is now listed at Screen Archives as coming with a "free autographed composer booklet" while supplies last. I've already pre-ordered directly from Varèse, and I don't see any mention of autographed booklets there. Is the autographed booklet exclusive to Screen Archives?
I have the two previous CD releases from Harkit (which I'm pretty sure aren't bootlegs) and also one of the previous vinyl issues.
On the last version of the CD produced it actually had the Main Title song in the correct order as heard in the film... which was a rarity and was always the chopped about, out of sequence version of the song on all previous releases.
So my question is... will the Varese version have the opening titles as they appear in the film or the old, chopped about album version?
The samples sound great. I don't know if the Harkit was a bootleg or not (I've never bough any Harkit releases), but the important thing is, it looks like this is the first release that's been mastered from the album master tapes & not some old LP.

My signed copy from SAE arrived today. Such a fun, kitschy soundtrack. The sound quality is fabulous, too--it totally blows away the Harkit release(s)--and the package handsomely designed. Now, to dive into those liner notes...

If the Harkit CD had the film version of the title song on it, they got it by transferring it from a video of the film. They sure as heck didn't get it from the Paramount vaults.

I fail to see how Barbarella is "kitsch." It is actually quite the opposite of kitsch, as neither the film nor the score aspire to be anything beyond what they are.
