So these are the 20 CDs I bought for $1.00 each at SAE's Movie Score Media Sale.
THE ROCKET POST THE 4 MUSKETEERS THE DEVIL'S TOMB KNIFE EDGE THE RED CANVAS SHIVER FLICKA 2 THE LIGHTKEEPERS GARBO: THE SPY AMALIA TALL SHIPS: THE PRIVATEER LYNX WHITE LION AGE OF HEROES A LONELY PLACE TO DIE THE AWAKENING CONQUEST 1453 A ROYAL AFFAIR FEMME FATALES THE PACT THE HOT POTATO
I have just finished listening to them all and 4 of them were VERY good. In no particular order, my Top 4 are:
1. The Red Canvas 2. The Rocket Post 3. Flicka 2 4. The Hot Potato
None of other 16 were bad, per se, just unmemorable.
Yes, some good scores in the list. Not essential buys by any means - many of them have one or two tracks that stand out amidst pretty much unmemorable material - except IMHO RED CANVAS and ROCKET POST (although it's been a long time since I last listened to them).
Indeed Red Canvas was the biggest pleasant surprise out of the lot. The Lightkeepers and Flicka 2 look like the type of movies movies that might get a quiet, eloquent, pretty score. And that's what they got. But Red Canvas was a martial arts movie I never heard of by a composer I never heard of. I put it on with low expectations. And WOOOW. What a full-bodied score full of beautiful melodies. Highly recommended.
