Although I don't hate the film, I do think DKR is easily the weakest of the Nolan trilogy. For me, Dark Knight is several country miles ahead of the other films. You can go back a few pages of this thread to see what I wrote about Batman Begins if you care,

That said, DKR has some great things going for it, including the score as you mention. I love the use of the chanting in the score, which works fantastically in the film and is great as a standalone listen. I agree with you about Anne Hathaway as well.

I didn't care for Bane, but then he is easily my least favorite A-list Batman villain. I have read numerous comics featuring him, and if the comics couldn't make him interesting to me, the movie version didn't have a prayer. Bane's garbled at times dialogue also didn't help.

I loved how DKR wrapped things up in a pleasing, smile-bringing way.

To be honest, I thought DK went on about ten minutes too long, the ending kind of ran it down. Too much "mythologizing" when the movie was for all intents and purposes, as if the audience was considered too dumb to figure things out. Plus, I mean, let's get real: DK was heavily influenced by "Heat"...which for me was a better movie.

Despite Ledger's absolutely stunning performance, I preferred Batman Begins to DK as well; I really loved the origin story there. Plus, Kate over Maggie's Rachel (though I really like Maggie and Jake in general).

But hey, it's just personal taste. All three were excellent movies, easily my favorite Batman in film.

I didn't care for Bane, but then he is easily my least favorite A-list Batman villain. I have read numerous comics featuring him[...]

Batman is imo better at the smaller-scale, battle-of-wills, psychological stuff than with the "save the universe" or even "save Gotham" plot. Batman is best when he uses his logic, intellect, and detective skills to out think his rogues gallery. Let Superman save the universe. This is why I prefer TDK over TDKR, though the latter has its strengths, too.

In the comics, Bane was effective when he first was created as a new threat to Batman and on a less-exalted level, when he was sort of a suitor to Ra's al Ghul's daughter, Talia (as seen in Bane of the Demon and Batman: Legacy). Oh, and Bane vs. Azrael used Bane effectively, so I guess I like Bane. wink

Of course, it also helps to have scenes of Batman kicking the shit out of his rogues gallery's henchmen (beautifully demonstrated in BvS). big grin

Great post! I actually have the whole Bane/Nightfall graphic novel collection, one of my favorite Batman stories (I like the early Snyder as well).

I just couldn't get into B vs S, especially B. I liked Bale way better as Batman; Affleck just doesn't do anything for me, I don't like any of his movies. I just thought Bale would have been great, most particularly from the acting end. I also though Jessie's Lex was lame as hell. But that's just me and my dumb opinion.

What a shame Kate dropped out (or, was forced out by her nutjob hubbie)

Oh gawd, DKR is atrociously BAD! Terribly written. This film deserves to be ridiculed. If you want to write a good screen play don't use this one as an example. Oh wait, your were just pulling our strings right? wink

I thought the Dark Knight Rises was very, very, well written.

Your going to be an extremely successful screenwriter. Hollywood is waiting for you.

I'd rate them Batman Begins: 10/10, The Dark Knight: 8/10, The Dark Knight Rises: 10/10...

Batman Begins- 7-10
The Dark Knight-10-10
The Dark Knight Rises- 0-10

No, Dark Knight Rises is much worse because it had the money, talent pool, and clot to make something spectacular and utterly failed. That's far more egregious than a low budget "B" movie.

My brain cells are literally dying the more we continue this pointless argument. I think I'm going to do something productive now. Adios!

(I mean seriously, we're just butting heads. It's like Rogue One. We just won't agree. It's fine smile

You must keep this fact in mind:
The ONLY film SOLIUM has ever been right about in his.opinion is INSIDE OUT ( he liked it)

I agree that the 'sum-up' monologues at the end of DK may have been overkill but...
that amazing scene of BAT being chased by cops and escaping on motorcycle- accompanied by Zimmer- erases the minor.misstep.

That's a phenomenal scene. There was great stuff in that movie wink

A highlight for me is the bank robbery at the beginning. I love how the synths frame the felony.

Too bad we never got a Joseph Gordon-Levitt "Nightwing" movie.
