I have all the season sets from Sony. Love the show, glad to have them.

I usually think of I Dream of Jeannie as the sister show to Bewitched, and it's horrifying what has been done to it on DVD. Most if not all of the episodes are hacked, running at 22 minutes or so; clearly the edited syndicated versions. It's a real bummer, but I'm glad Bewitched was treated properly.

Bad DVD packaging can make it seem like too much of a pain to even watch the show. You don't feel like dealing with it. I recommend this kind of thing:

https://www.amazon.com/Maxell-Multi-Color-CD-DVD-Sleeves/dp/B000EUFJXE/

I think it's the lowest-cost solution, taking up the least shelf space, while still providing each disc with more-than-decent protection. You can get them in all-white if the colors don't work for you.

Cost is an issue due to the sheer number of discs in my DVD collection that came in awkward series packaging. So I'm not about to buy big plastic cases.

With these envelopes, you can easily flip thru the whole stack, and the clear plastic window is big enough to see which disc is which without sliding them out (unless they printed the disc number way out near the circumference).

David are you sure about this? Every DVD I have of I Dream of Jeannie in both the Sony and Mill Creek sets are complete unedited episodes. Same with Bewitched.

Same here. The episodes run longer than 22 minutes and while I have noticed a few odd things only seen in recent syndication airings (sound effects changes, lack of pilot subtitles, standardized opening credits), the episodes seem intact for the most part. Granted, I don't have the series memorized, I have a have a number of episodes recorded from unedited 16mm film reels and, aside from network bumpers and sponsor tags, the same episodes are intact on DVD.

Yeah. Now I'm wondering if there was something up with the speed, like when syndicated prints are sped up a bit so they can save a minute or two for more advertising. I just recall that they were not full 25 to 26 minute episodes, and I remember being so disappointed because I watched Jeannie after Bewitched and couldn't believe Bewitched was in tact but Jeannie was hacked...

I've spot checked about a dozen episodes on the DVDs I have. The average color Jeannie episode runs a few seconds shorter than 25 minutes. Episodes in the first season seem to get about 30 seconds past 25 minutes. The episodes I have sat through have no cuts I can determine. With network bumpers cut out, the average episode should really be longer than 25 minutes and I would say the 24:45 most of them seem to be is about right.

FYI: the Mill Creek episodes run 5 seconds longer than the Sony DVDs because of the inclusion of the Screen Gems logo. "U.F.Ohh! Jeannie!" runs 24:44 on Mill Creek and 24:39 on Sony, but the prints are otherwise identical.

Back when I watched all the sets, I took some notes on running times because I couldn't believe it and wanted to follow up on it. I'll dig them out at some point soon and see which episodes I flagged.

Today I bought the 2005 BEWITCHED movie on DVD. I found it at a local thrift store for about $2. It was scuffed up, naturally, but I watched the whole thing and it plays perfectly. It was the ideal way for me to collect this Bewitched item, because I see it as a missed opportunity and an unsatisfying movie overall.

With hindsight, there are so many things they should have done differently. Nicole Kidman is better suited to drama; she didn't quite deliver Samantha for me. Will Ferrell, whether due to the script or his own clout, went WAY off the rails at too many points in the story. And by trying to re-create some aspects of the TV show while shooting the property as an entirely different concept, the film comes off jumbled, wildly uneven.

The good: Michael Caine was so perfect for Maurice, he didn't even have to play a character. I like Steve Carell's Uncle Arthur a lot. There are some good musical nods to the TV theme, including Steve Lawrence singing the seldom-heard lyrics.

As far as my collection is concerned, I just have to pick up TABITHA (1977), and I'll have the whole BEWITCHED universe locked up.

A couple of weeks ago, I saw the "black and blue" boxed set on Amazon for like $60. I saved it in my cart until the following payday....and in two days it went up to $150. Damn it... Now there's one left. Still expensive. Blergh.

Just remember, you have this show on the shelf, and the whole run of Dick York in premium quality.

Alternatively, eBay and some patience could be the way to go, either for the blue box or the final three season sets if they're cheap.

And finally, on Prime Day, I noticed the Bewitched set dropped to like $30. Snagged. And yup, it's the 2013 Sony box. Score!

Alright! I'm glad to hear that.

Incidentally, how come you're posting under two I.D.s? Assuming you don't have an identical cousin also named Scott in your town. Sometimes cousins are two of a kind. smile

I....actually...don't know. I don't even remember creating the second ID a year after I joined the first. That is so weird. I mean, I obviously DID, all the info is mine. I must have done the second one after not being able to access the first or something. I just don't know how or why I seem to be alternating. Huh...

Are you using two different computers to post here, like one at home and one at work? That would explain the alternating.

For a long time I didn't notice you had two I.D.s. Then when I did, I briefly thought it was two different guys who shared some of the same passions, and I almost posted about the coincidence. But when Scott M picked up right where ScottyM left off in this thread, it was pretty clear you were you.

Either that, or we have a Sixth Day violation.

I did swap computers between then and now and probably created the alternate ID when I had to use it at work years ago. Weird. The (Oldsmith) ID is my preferred, I just never realized I wasn't using it. Huh, again.

Anyways, I watched the first two colorized episodes and while it's not the worst example of the process I'd ever seen, I really don't like it. It doesn't have the same bright pop as the actual color episodes and knowing that it's impossible to tell if these colors are accurate or not, I stopped after episode 2. I'll go back to B&W. But, at least I now have every version of Bewitched available: All color, b&w/color and compressed with Screen Gems logos.

I don't laugh much at Bewitched, but some of the pilot ripped a couple of belly laughs out of me.
