Then again, based on what Jackblu is saying, I think I will be waiting for the Kritzerland edition in this case.

LOL, so fans are starting to see releases like annual new-car models!

"...unless the sound is important to you"
--------------------------------
UNLESS THE SOUND IS IMPORTANT TO YOU!!!???
For John Williams' sake..of course the sound is friggin' important to us!!!

Indeed, I cannot fathom how sound cannot be considered an imperative issue, since music consists of sound.

I think everyone is taking the whole "sound" comment to an extreme. IMO the differences are very subtle. Many are acting like this repress is the end of the world. I know it does cost more to import out of the US but if you live in the US and this repress is killing you that you think you've been taken advantage of because of the fist pressing I think just paying 20.00 adding it to your next Intrada order is the best way to get over it. When you think about it is all this arguing and stress over it worth it all? It just so much easier to just buy it and compare the discs and make a better constructive opinion. Intrada's intentions weren't to make people mad over the pressing.

It's just sad that the backlash over this release will more than likely lead to never getting remasters on other possible albums when possible.

I would love to hear what others think when they are able to compare the discs I'm nuts not the greatest judge over audio quality and would be good to hear of examples of differences.

I could not notice any sound difference between the Varese version or both Intradas. The latest Intrada version has a smoother, better dynamic range and not as loud then the other two versions.

Overall if one has the first Intrada, I think there is no reason to upgrade?

I own the 2013 release and honestly see no point of upgrading to a new release unless additional material was found, "improved" mix or not; here is what Roger said when it first was released:

"By the way, the reason the release isn't complete is there were four tracks that were no where to be found: Kate in Shower (:34), Mike Arrives (:45), The Subway (source) (4:10), and Liz in Elliot's Office (1:33). The last one is the biggest disappointment...but it is what it is."

I also don't see the point of criticizing Intrada for revising their mix when they feel it could be improved upon. The first release IMO sounded good enough and as Schiffy stated a matter of personal preference. It's also not a score I listen to that much that I'd rebuy it for what I suspect will just be a mininal improvement anyway. There are still lots of Donaggio scores that I'm interested in getting.

Here is a comparison between the original VARESE CD and the INTRADA 2013 release.

Given these a listen and make up your own mind about the differences

I wanted to beat this drum again, if I may....
The score is a top fave to me - I'm not crazy about this trend of tweaking mixes, I feel supporting that could create utter nightmares for collectors, and I'm getting too old to need 10 editions even of my favorites, unless they are re-recordings.
I see Ford says he heard no difference - anyone else? The run time is a few seconds longer, yet it looks that there are a couple short cues exclusive to this release (yes, taking consideration into the newly split cues, I see those). Mike Arrives & Eliot & Levy are the two I see. Yes?? Did we solve this?
Sorry for a hostile tone, I love intrada, support score albums, first world probs, yada yada.... - this one is just kind of a pisser to me & I wanted to see if there are any new opinions or thoughts.

To my ears the 2nd Intrada release has more reverb/wetness than the 1st. Maybe not quite as much as the Varese but, for me, its the perfect compromise between reverb and content. It's a wonderful listen. I'd certain recommend the latest Intrada as the definitive release.

Thank you Spymaster, I appreciate the response!
I'm still trying to discern where I fall in the Donaggio audio sweepstakes - in the end I'll just shuddup & buy it, but I still like reading others comments.

I, too, am on the fence about buying the re-issue. We'll see next time I'm flush with cash.

That's exactly what we were going for! Glad someone noticed!

I'm hoping one of the DtK score experts might be able to help with this.

I know it's not oon the expanded release, but does anyone have any information about the cue that comes in around 1:03:50 when the hoods are listening to their boombox in the subway? Is this the missing subway cue perhaps?

It sounds like a funky Goblin piece but I'm wondering whether it's Pino's handiwork or not.

Any information would be appreciated! Here's a sample of it: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VZiEgU2EF8M4kqgBB0ME4VaPnhfDNEVY/view?usp=share_link

Definitely a Pino original, close to his Blow Out source cue opener, I wondered why it was never included either. Probably done at a separate session, since lost and no one bothered to dig further.

Good point, they do sound quite similar! Just goes to show Pino's virtuosity. I'd love to hear the whole subway cue from DtK since it sounds like there's some great stuff happening under the hoods' dialogue. Maybe someday we'll be graced with a miraculous archival find.

I'm with you on that! It would have to be placed at the end of the album of course, but I missed it as well. I've bought every issuance of this score, and likely would again!

Update: I just tried asking at Intrada's board, but its blocking me today.
Roger mentions not everything was found, sadly including the choral cue towards the end, so I wondered if the source cue was among the missing, or if it was decided to be too at odds with the rest to include.
Maybe he'll see this and chime in?

Cheers!
Sean

Sorry mate for compounding the confuse - I've learned to watch those dates, carefully on these things lol.

NY sessions...hope is dim. Aside from Manhattan Center, is there even a recording venue IN NY anymore!?
