Just got out. Meh. Unlike with Gravity, Price's music did nothing for the film, nor does it sound like anything I would enjoy on its own. To be fair, the film's problems begin at the script level, so there wasn't much to work with, but brilliant scores have been written for more jacked up films than this one.
I'm going to go against the grain here and say that I am enjoying the hell out of this score. I thought the movie was flawed but overall very enjoyable, same said of the score. I don't think the movie did the score any favors...it was buried behind a lot of rock songs, special effects, and explosions...but I think it is better represented on the album. I bought the download so I could get all the extra tracks...and for the most part they are worth it. Steven Price is 3/3 with me since he came to my attention with Gravity.

Just saw the film. Boy what a mess! I agree that there have been better scores for crap films than what Price wrote. But, on the other hand he had to accommodate the ridiculous number of pop songs, often playing over scenes where the score would have standout moments. And who knows how much time he had to write the score - the film was apparently cut to shreds in the editing room late in post production.
You sum up my thoughts exactly with this quote "As for the rest of the score, it’s just one run-of-the-mill action cue after another, an endless repetitive stream of modern by-the-numbers super-hero scoring. In many ways, Price’s action music is more like rock music with an orchestra; the traditional complement of instruments is regularly accompanied by electric guitars, a drum kit, and a large number of synthetic electronic embellishments, giving it an aggressive and hard-edged attitude."
I didn't make it all the way through the score before I jumped to the last few main cues. I couldn't fathom listening to bonus cues after all that.

Giving this another spin, and amongst the generic Zimmer-styled toolings, I'm enjoying a few tracks within the melee. Could be a neat 20-30 minute programme buried in this one. And given the RAMBO FIRST BLOOD 2 sounding main theme, maybe Price coulda delivered a cool LAST BLOOD score.
