I usually use fresh squeezed grapefruit juice. If I don't have an actual grapefruit handy, I use the Indian River brand. I ask because most of the classic recipes call for white grapefruit juice. Jeff Beachbum Berry, the world's leading authority on classic rum cocktails, insists on white. Trouble is, you can't find white grapefruit anymore, so your choices are either Ocean Spray white or fresh squeezed/not from concentrate red or pink. One of my favorite cocktails is the Ancient Mariner, which I post soon. I made two identical Ancient Mariners side by side, one with Ocean Spray white and one with Natalie's fresh-squeezed pink grapefruit, hands down the best grapefruit juice I've ever had out of a bottle. The drink with Natalie's was in my opinion way better than the one with Ocean Spray white. So much as I trust the Bum's advice, I really like some of these drinks with freshly squeezed or not-from-concentrate pink.
