Hi people!

I am looking to get any Ennio Morricone concert on DVD as I own none but the thing is that I don't really know where to start.

I have come across at my local shop to this one: Morricone conducts Morricone, a concert recorded in 2004 (http://www.amazon.com/Morricone-Conducts-Ennio/dp/B000EQHRW4?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0)

Should I get this one? Should I get another? Should I wait to a new concert featuring that impressive "The Hateful Eight" suite?

Thanks for your advice, it's very grateful smile

Thats a great place to start. A solid film of his concert material from 2004 that covers a good deal of the selections still being played today. I prefer this to the Venice concert which is spoilt a little with unrelated on screen poetry texts.

I can recommend this one:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dmovies-tv&field-keywords=morricone+arena+concerto&rh=n%3A2625373011%2Ck%3Amorricone+arena+concerto

The first one listed is a region 2, so you would need a region 2 or region free PAL capable player. The 2nd one is expensive. The 3rd appears to be a Japanese NTSC version.

It's from a 2002 concert in Verona. Especially the Spaghetti Western tracks and the Mission are fenomenal.

No idea. They're all fine to me. Here's what you have officially released so far.

Arena Concerto, Verona 2002
Morricone Conducts Morricone, Munich 2004
Concerto alle Nazioni Unite, NYC 2007
Peace Notes - Live in Venice 2007
Live in Moscow 2012

There are also some nice bootlegs out there, pro shot for TV; Seoul 2007, Chile 2008, Torino 2012, Bill Carson's flat, etc.

Not sure if this is the Peace Notes you've mentioned but there's also the 2007 concert in Venice at Piazza San Marco (which Roy mentions/means in his 1st posting I guess because the concert material on the DVD has some poetry text screens blended in).
There's been a Deluxe Set with 1 DVD, 2 CDs & a book (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ennio-Morricone-Venice-Exclusive-Amazon-co-uk/dp/B001DNNCVM).

edit:
The Peace Notes is also featured on the DVD of this set. Here's another listing with the back cover:

Yeah, that's it. I have the Deluxe Set. The book is nothing to write home about, but hey the box looks cool on the shelf.

Thanks for your comments. Which one of these would you choose to start?

Arena Concerto, Verona 2002
Morricone Conducts Morricone, Munich 2004
Concerto alle Nazioni Unite, NYC 2007
Peace Notes - Live in Venice 2007
Live in Moscow 2012

I found the "Morricone conducts Morricone" one extremely cheap on a store. May it be the best one to start? smile

You've not bought it yet? And you say it's cheap, really?

I want to thank you for the advice on "Morricone conducts Morricone". It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, what a delightful experience!

The whole concert is superb (even I was more fond on the first part, I am afraid I don't get "Canone Inverso") and the recording is over the top. The only distracting thing is that during "Cinema Paradiso", "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" and "The Desert of the Tartars" performances there is footage of the movies and it's something that really doesn't work. But, trust me, that is a minor detail. The DVD is excellent and I am very grateful to own it. Thanks for all your help smile

(And now I can't stop listening "Love Circle" nor "The Sicilian Clan"!)
