Discarded by a student, it appears this Samsung GalaxyTab wasn't used for years. I found the charging cable, too. It powered up and appeared to work.

A Random Guy on the Bus told me that I can now read e-books from both Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Rather than trust him, I will ask The Hive Mind That Is FSM: Does this mean that I can download and read David Raksin's book? https://www.amazon.com/BAD-BEAUTIFUL-Golden-Music-Raksin-ebook/dp/B008KQ4GW4?ie=UTF8&keywords=david%20raksin&qid=1344277051&ref_=sr_1_1&s=digital-text&sr=1-1

If I can't read his book, I'll probably sell the silly thing to the local electronics exchange.

I think this is the best reader, and it makes ebooks look most like their print counterparts. I believe it will play a variety of ebook formats and PDFs (I normally use .epub files).

Overdive also lets you connect to various libraries and if you have an account, you can directly download books, audio, and video.

Overdrive is a very versatile reader and I don't think the Amazon and B&N readers are remotely comparable.

Looks like Amazon has a "free" 30 day trial period. I don't know about Amazon but iTunes has some "free" eBooks if you want to see if it works on your device. (if you don't want to spend the money up front.)

Found? Have you made certain this simply wasn't misplaced by somebody?

Yep - you just need to download the free app and spend $6.67.

I also highly recommend this great book (if you want some great laughs and entertainment):
https://www.amazon.com/Off-Wizard-Magic-2-0-Book-ebook/dp/B00EF8Z32I?ie=UTF8&keywords=off%20to%20be%20the%20wizard&qid=1464878677&ref_=sr_1_1&s=digital-text&sr=1-1

Martin Banks is just a normal guy who has made an abnormal discovery: he can manipulate reality, thanks to reality being nothing more than a computer program. With every use of this ability, though, Martin finds his little “tweaks” have not escaped notice. Rather than face prosecution, he decides instead to travel back in time to the Middle Ages and pose as a wizard.

What could possibly go wrong?

An American hacker in King Arthur’s court, Martin must now train to become a full-fledged master of his powers, discover the truth behind the ancient wizard Merlin…and not, y’know, die or anything.

It was discarded.

You can read the Raksin book on your tablet, but you will need the Kindle app to do it.

Amazon won't let me download a Kindle book without their app installed. On this title you are relegated to downloading and reading this though the Kindle app for Android.

All the reader apps are free, so install them all and use whichever one you need at the moment.

As above, the Kindle app should allow you to read this, no problem. Also, once you've got the app, check out all the free public domain stuff that you can download. Happy reading!

No thanks. I'd rather read paper books.

I'm only keeping the silly tablet long enough to read the Raksin book, since it's not available on paper.

For me anything over 300 pages is a huge pain to read in a physical form so I am always glad for my e-books. I like that the kindle I have is the same weight whether I am reading a short book or War and Peace. Plus when I travel I don't want to bring with me three or four books that I might get around to reading. I would rather have all four on the kindle and accessible whenever I choose.

I've always thought e-books would be ideal for college students, whose books always are like anvils.

E- Textbooks suck.
If You are studying and moving between 2 or more texts to compare information, e-books are a disruption to that process in a way that moving between physical books is not. That, or you would need a reader device for each book.
I'm not especially fond of e-books, but I have no love at all for e-textbooks.
