thestat, is it possible for members of this board to have different likes and tastes that are not like yours and still have real working ears?
I think people are irritated because he's so blatantly promoting not only Brian Tyler's scores, but also the (lowest-common-denominator) movies he composes for. We come here for informed discussion, not to be advertised to. I don't know about you guys, but who cares when a "new image has been released from the upcoming Power Rangers movie!!!" It's very suspect when you look at the totality of circumstances. I mean really, "Thanks all who picked up Brian's score album for "Power Rangers" which hit #2 this week on iTunes!" - I'm a big John Williams fan, but I don't come here and say "Thanks to all who picked up John's score album this week!"
Yes, bondo, but there are just some really enthusiastic fans around here. henry, obviously, for his beloved Conti. Yavar is a cheerleader for anything Goldsmith, and also Poledouris and Bernstein.
I don't personally share enthusiasm for all of the above composers (some, very much!), but it's really pretty easy to avoid the threads that don't interest me. (Though, strangely, here I am. I guess I saw it was getting a lot of posts and wondered why.) I'd hate to think we're here to decide how enthusiastic people should be.
And thestat's conspiracy theories are a bit nutty.
"We come here for informed discussion, not to be advertised to."
I'm confused by that statement a bit because La La Land, Intrada and other companies that sell CD's do post here. I think that is advertisement.
Oh, well, I look at trailers and read what members here write about scores and movies and then decide for myself if a movie is a lowest common-denominator or something that might interest me. Sometimes Tyler scores some very good movies, and he scores some that don't interest me. I guess I'm not bothered by various people finding great joy in different composers. And I just skip the topics about scores and movies that I don't find interesting.
I actually find it wierd when people just post a trailer for a movie here (even if it's Star Wars or whatever else most people here love)....I mean, 99.7% of the time it has nothing to do with the music.
That said, it's pretty easy to ignore threads you're not interested in, but I consistently find it seems some posters here think that they HAVE to read every single thread...

I do want to see the movie and listen to the album one day, but until then, yes to all of what you said.
I sometimes post a trailer. When a composer is attached to a project, it's nice to give some look at that project even if the score is months out. Or a new trailer can be a chance to bump the thread and, with luck revive the conversation.
But this is always the way at this and some other boards: people will pile on to whine about popular mediocre scores, but try to get them to enter a thread or sample an obscure hidden gem they may enjoy -- hah! Good luck with that!
At least people like Adam K get some traffic into the thread. In discussions of Bear McCreary or Austin Wintory or Christopher Gordon or an interesting new release from a smaller label it often feels like I'm talking to myself.
