Really glad to see this one released... which is quite surpring considering how unusual it is... easily and by far Shapiro's most experimental and avant garde work to date. Still very interesting score compared to what he is best known for.
Reading various thoughts on Shapiro's score for the new GHOSTBUSTERS, the common thread seemed to be "Look what he delivered once he got a chance to shine." After watching THE INVITATION last weekend, I'd argue that it actually happened last year. It works brilliantly in the movie, utterly unsettling, and betraying no hints that this was the guy who'd been buried with Adam Sandler for so long. I'm honestly not sure I would enjoy listening to this on album, but I mean that as a compliment. The movie is well worth a watch and is now on Netflix. I'd strongly recommend checking the score out there.
