I found a copy of this at Half Price Books for $11.99. Never heard the music, never saw the movie. But I like Rachel Portman. Well, I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The main theme is lovely and played many times throughout. The rest is nothing spectacular, but it makes for a nice quiet listen.
I love this score, and happened to listen to again recently myself.
What's interesting is that it was clearly used in the temp for the Peter Jackson KING KONG, and James Newton Howard (and friends) certainly didn't shy away from it for the jazzy Carl Denham cues, and the tender moments between Naomi Watts and the ape.
I bought this one blind at Virgin Megastore back in the day based on my love for Cider House Rules. The main theme is nearly perfect and Andy Crowley just takes the melody and makes it soar...
