I am a collector and a listener. I listen to about 8 hours of music every day. I listen to older and newer releases from my catalogue. I do, however, have a fairly vast catalogue, so many discs I haven't listened to in years. Partly that is because I have about 40 composers whose entire catalogue I want to own. At the top of that list is Ennio Morricone, one of my personal lifesavers, of whom I currently own 312 scores, but that isn't enough for me, as I want them all, and I'm not giving away or selling the bad ones. I've only recently (in the past 5 years or so) gotten into Maurice Jarre and Elmer Bernstein. I knew of them before but was not interested. Then came something from some label and I was hooked and I now want everything from both these dudes. Reissues are important because there is a certain amount of young people who get into this hobby and have missed out on a thing that sold out in a week, and that was years ago. When I first got into film music, the three sparks were The Unotouchables (Morricone), Die Hard (Kamen), and The Rock (Glennie-Smith & Zimmer). The Untouchables was the very first CD I ever bought nearly 20 years ago. The music sounds great still, and to make things better, La-La Land Records released the complete score and remastered the original album presentation. Die Hard wasn't available at that time. There was, however, a thing on eBay, which I got, but I shan't go further with that. Varèse Sarabande released theirs, it had a glitch in it, but that has since been fixed by (again) La-La Land Records with their complete presentation. Towards The Rock I have little interest nowdays, I've kind of grown up from it. For me the amount of releases is fine. My finances are limited so I have to pick what I buy. Another "problem" is the fact that there are so many films released annually, far more than way back in the days of Jaws and E.T.. So we have possibly good and interesting music from 2015 and older reissues and complete releases of older scores. I am missing out on the newer stuff as my tastes lean towards older things. Roughly 30 % of my purchases this year are from 2000-2015. I can manage with having to pick what I buy, so I say keep 'em coming.
