TUESDAY, MAY 26

IT---director Cary Fukunaga (TRUE DETECTIVE) has left the two-movie project based on the Stephen King novel in a dispute over the budget. Fukunaga wanted two movies with the first featuring the characters as children and the second as adults, but New Line Cinema only wanted one movie with adults to save on the budget. King tweeted his reaction, "The remake of IT may be dead--or undead--but we'll always have Tim Curry. He's still floating down in the sewers of Derry."

THE LEGEND OF CONAN--Arnold Schwarzenegger said about returning for the sequel to his 1982 CONAN THE BARBARIAN, "It is the greatest honor to be 67 years old and to still be asked to come back into all those franchises. Whether it is the TERMINATOR movie or it is now CONAN, it is fantastic!" The sequel is set 30 years after the original movie.
Producer/co-writer Chris Morgan said, "Our marching orders from the studio were to create a film worthy as a successor to the 1982 film, which was pretty brutal." He said three characters from the original movie will return for the sequel.

SUICIDE SQUAD---the Batmobile from BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE was photographed on the set which seems to confirm rumors that Ben Affleck will have a cameo in the movie.

ARROW---actress Willa Holland said the Season 2 scene of her as Harley Quinn in an A.R.G.U.S. uniform from the rear view was supposed to be a hint of more Harley in later seasons. However, because Harley is in the SUICIDE SQUAD movie, she won't be on ARROW, "...something must have come down from DC or some higher-up above that said 'No, you must cease and desist because we're going to make it into a movie and we can't have anyone spoil that idea.' We did get to see that little pigtail and the ARGUS uniform and the little treat of Harley Quinn, and it just got ripped away. So if we could actually have Harley Quinn on the show, that would be amazing. But it's never going to happen."

THE EXPENDABLES 4---Hulk Hogan said he's in talks to reunite with Sylvester Stallone after their 1982 ROCKY III, “We’re trying to figure out a way to maybe turn me into the most evil man in the world. Y’know, Stallone gave me my first break and he’s been a great friend...“We had a great conversation, talking about the possibilities. Can I still run? Can I still jump? Well, not as fast or not as high, but I think Hollywood could find a good stunt man to help me out.” He said Stallone's main concern is filming a fourth movie after the dismal box office of THE EXPENDABLES 3.

MILLER'S JUSTICE LEAGUE MORTAL---documentary underway based on George Miller's JUSTICE LEAGUE movie being canceled in 2008 by Warner Bros. so the studio could concentrate on GREEN LANTERN and MAN OF STEEL.

CHURCHILL'S SECRET---movie underway starring Michael Gambon and Lindsay Duncan set in 1953 when Prime Minister Winston Churchill suffered a stroke that wasn't revealed to the public. His wife wants him to retire while political allies and enemies plot his successor.

GAMBIT---Channing Tatum said the movie will be an origin movie.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY: HOTEL---Max Greenfield (NEW GIRL) has joined the cast.

They could have had that right around the turn of the century when John Milius wrote Crown of Iron. Instead, Warner Bros. just haaaaad to get the Wachowskis involved and it became a royal shitstorm that fell apart within months.

Now Milius is unable to direct and Poledouris has past away. Two big parts of what made Conan the Barbarian enjoyable will be sorely missed. I'm not counting on this one being bad, but making another good Conan film is going to be a tall order.

Actually, he's beefed himself up considerably since that picture was taken. He looks quite impressive for a 67-year-old.

He's doing a film at the end of Conan's life and about 30 years after the original film....

to be fair NONE OF US look as good as we did 30+ years ago...

That's quite an old photo, taken during his stint as California governor when he didn't have time to hit the gym. I'm sure he's actually working out now, but what's the point if he's delivering crap lines in a crap movie (like Destroyer and many of his other movies)?

It looks as if someone photoshopped Arnold's head on someone else's body.

I rather liked Conan The Destroyer. But then I could never get used to a Kull villain showing up in a Conan movie.

Here's the cool thing about Arnold:
You show him that picture and he would join you in having a hearty laugh about it.

And THEN he would squash you with his thumb.

And gee whiz, did that work out for the best.

A new movie could begin with this image. He'd be the right age to do it now.

I have no doubt that was the idea Milius had in mind for Crown of Iron.

If you haven't seen the recent zombie/character drama MAGGIE yet, you should. It's probably Arnie's closest attempt to making an arthouse flick, and he gets to trim a few of his acting muscles as well -- it's rather impressive, and a good sign that he will be able to deliver an older and weathered Conan with ease.

Thanks for the reminder, I had forgotten about this one, and wasn't sure if it was "big" enough to hit local cinemas here in the UK, but I've just checked and it seems to be listed for mid-July.

CONAN - It is with trepidation but an open mind that I ponder Chris Morgan`s thoughts about Conan. I agree, the studios should have let the excellently placed cards of Milius and Poledouris with Crown Of Iron fall where they ought to have. Instead, folks dicked around and here we are.

I have no idea who I would want to see direct this, if not Milius. Composing duties - assuming the film is good - might be slightly easier. John Debney? Given his faithful work to Silvestri`s Predator, he might render up something gloriously permutated. Michael Gordon Shapiro. Silvestri. John Ottman. Kilar. Has to be someone who isn`t afraid to let bass thunder or horns clarionly blare.

Addendum: Stromberg. The bringer of Nuclear Storms could do it.

Kilar sadly passed away at the end of 2013. But I agree, he would have been great for this.

If that's really a later day picture of Arnold I'm quite surprised he let himself go. Bodybuilding is a lifestyle and it's not something you stop with age. Also didn't he have heart surgery? Shouldn't he have a huge scar down his chest?
