So the thread about Patrick Doyle's second film score ever (Shipwrecked) keeps popping up, and it reminds me of just how consistently fresh and excellent he was in the first 10 years or so of his career (just to be clear, I think he *still* often writes excellent music, but sadly has had to follow temp tracks more and more often, to the frequent detriment of his own brilliant voice). I mean, Shipwrecked is probably the LEAST of his early scores but it's still wonderful and very much deserving of an expanded/remastered reissue from Intrada. But there's another early score of his that I think is much more underrated though probably just about as rare -- Into the West: http://www.amazon.com/Into-Movie-Soundtrack-Various-Artists/dp/B000008GUZ/ Thankfully since it's more obscure, the prices are cheap so you can pick up a reasonable copy at the link above. It's less than half an hour of score after a number of songs, but it is all CHOICE material. The title and front cover are rather misleading about the musical content. It's not really a western score in any way, but instead one that is awash in gorgeous Celtic influence. There's a sense of transcendent magic to parts of this score, kind of like A Little Princess but even more so. There's sadness and beauty and plenty of excitement to boot! It is a GREAT album. I have yet to see the film but plan to rectify it sometime soon. I have to know how much unreleased music there is so that I can bug Intrada about doing an expanded release. At least I think I'd have to bug them, because in the U.S. the film was released by Miramax, but I don't know whether they'd hold the score rights or not. Anybody else love this gem as much as I do? Even among Doyle's amazing early output, I think this one stands out. Yavar

Gorgeous score. Wish it got a new remastered edition (I don't care about expansion). C'mon, Thor, even you have to admit this one deserves an expansion. For a score this good and varied, to only have *25 minutes* released? You could double the runtime and it'd still fit within your acceptable parameters of length! Yavar

I've owned this for a few years but can't remember a note of it. I'll have to dig it up and re-listen. Did you ever do this, bobbengan? Yavar
