Is this release the same 'sounding' one as the latest Varese?

Mr. Matessino did an "incredible audio restoration" for the Varese release, so Paul's question is still valid. The real question is whether the "revised mastering for this edition" is significant.

That Jim Titus continues to impress; he could make a mountain of feces look like gold.

I'm sure it's the same as the Varese, which I have, or I'd be buying this, as this looks to be the best presentation yet. My favourite ancient world epic film score, & a great weird & wonderful film. I'm lucky enough to have the Twilight Time Blu-ray, which looks stunning & really should be re-released.

Jim Titus is simply amazing at what he does. Probably the best ever, actually.

Agree on both the score and the TT Blu-ray. I'm always hoping that a 'new' remaster can result in any improvement however small. Thus, the question remains is this release the exact same disc as the Varese or has the sound been re tweaked?

New art direction by Jim Titus...

I'd say that looks like extraordinary "new art direction by Jim Titus..." Absolutely wow! A truly great score, and at a very nice price. Thanks LLL!

The sound has been cleaned up as well as some edits fixed for this version. Mike went through the Varese version and really tweaked it to his and our liking.

Is it worth the upgrade? Of course it is (I'm biased), but if you have the Varese version then there really is no need to buy this unless you want Jeff's new notes and Jim's gorgeous package...wait, that came out wrong.

You know what I mean!

Thanks! I'm sure that this magnificent score is in fine hands and the presentation looks superior than the older Varese version.

And that is why I'm considering this. It'll look so nice next to my TT Blu-ray of the movie.

I missed out on the Varese 2-CD;so this will be ordered by me on the 24th. My postman must be wondering what happened to all those little packages I used to get. If I were to tell him golden age CD's are becoming rare releases these days, he wouldn't know what I was talking about. Huh?

I'll be close to the front of the line to order this latest edition of what is among my four or five all-time favorite film scores.

Although I'm ecstatic to have lived long enough to enjoy such a complete and so sonically solid an album of this music, I nevertheless wish that Varese still had in print their CD of the original Decca LP. That Newman arrangement/performance of a drastically abridged EGYPTIAN remains a peerless listening experience in its own right. As an LP, it stayed a remarkable well-over-a-decade in the Schwann catalog, and IMHO should never be allowed to go out of print.

Have you ever noticed when, during Akhnaton's final scene, when he is talking about the Aton, how he says, "more, much more," and slowly mounts the stairs leading up to the throne, how the lighting subtly changes, from mostly cool hues, to a golden tone around him? Very subtle. Very effective.

THE EGYPTIAN movie and score are among my Top Ten Favorites!

I was debating getting this, but the presentation is so superb, how can I resist!

It stayed longer than that. I was seeing it in record stores for a good 20 years after its initial release. I even think there was a cassette release.
