Thanks! Had no idea Desplat had actually done work on this film. Will definitely pick up the album. The novel is amazing. It's actually two books of a projected five part series. The author only finished two before being sent to Auschwitz and murdered. The film is based on the second book. The film, admittedly, looks like a misfire. The fact that it was moved from a prime Oscar-season slot to a March dumping ground doesn't bode well, nor does the trailer, which looks very TV movie.

It sounds more like the score is by Jones alone, with "Bruno's Piano Piece" something Desplat wrote early, because it had to be played live on set. This article seems to suggest that's the case: http://filmmusicreporter.com/2015/02/19/suite-francaise-soundtrack-details/ This could be like THE TOURST, which had one Gabriel Yared track left in only because it was source music inextricably welded into the film as shot.

The movie has been on the Desplat's upcoming list for a while... I have never heard about Rael Jones' attachment, which is news. Have anyone actually ever heard of/anything by him? We'll probably just have to wait and hear if it is something old or new... either way he was supposed to score the movie a while ago. This appears to be his first feature score after working in TV for a while as a guitar player and composer. Hope he has done something great! I'll be picking up the CD either way though, for the Desplat cue alone.

He co-composed another score a few years ago, but it was rejected.

Hopefully it's another My week with Marilyn and not another (dis)grace of monaco kind of scenario, which could also be this case. Do you mean the film, or the score? Film looks dreadful, sadly.

Has anyone listened to this? It's a lovely score. Jones is very skilled, it's melodic, old-fashioned in the best possible way. It sounds a great deal like the score Desplat probably would have written.
