" The plot centers on a woman who embezzles from her employer, gets caught and is blackmailed to marry one of her bosses. Muhly composed "Two Boys," which debuted at the English National Opera in 2011 and appeared at the Met two years later. The Met said Wednesday "Marnie" is a co-commission that will debut at the ENO in 2017 and appear at the Dutch National Opera the following year."
With apologies if noted elsewhere -- I seem to be runner up with all of my recent posts!!!
I have only ever heard from anyone that they kind of liked Joshuah and The Reader. And I didnt meet anyone who really cared for his opera Two Boys. He seems to get all the commissions he wants and lots of people talk about him, but now a decade into a career of incredible success I have yet to meet a person who first and foremost says they actually LOVE a particular piece he's written.
I've banged on here a few times about how much I love his film scores that I have (all THREE!!!). KILL YOUR DARLINGS is all kinds of brilliant to me (I think I talk to myself in that thread) and the Main Title from JOSHUA is probably among my favourite Horror/Thriller score openings. I'm a bit hit and miss about THE READER, but I do like parts of it. Very Isham-like to me. I'd love to hear his music to MARGARET and the un-used EXTREMELY LOUD & INCREDIBLY CLOSE score.
I wish Herrmann's original tracks were available. A report on this website many months ago claimed that the score was coming to CD, but there's been nothing said since then.
