Good one. I nominate Krull and Cutthroat Island, even though the latter in particular was an impressive production and primarily lacked a good script and decent leading man (Modine looked the part but didn't cut it otherwise).

Slipstream immediately comes to mind

Van Helsing. There are a pair of YouTube videos which set key setpiece cues to scenes from Kim Possible, and it works a treat (plus it's finally supporting something good).

I woud not put the Geena Davis career killer and Krull in the same company.
The first is regarded as a commercial AND creative failure, the second has a cult following.
When I saw it at the movies I kinda liked it, in its own weird sci-fi/fantasy hybridated way.
I should re-watch it...
Agreed about Slipstream, which is actually terrible, nowadays it would be SyFy material.
Probably the most reviled movie that carries a masterpiece score is Sodom and Gomorrah. even if , at least in parts, it is not as terrible as they say.
Another case (again Rozsa) that comes to mind is The Power...absolutely ASTOUNDING score, pretty lifeless and dodgy movie-

Easy, two goldsmiths: Supergirl and Star Trek V

You what?! "The power" is great and contains some scenes of which I wonder how they got those into a children film.

of course it's all IMHO...it's true that there's a couple of weirdly disquieting scenes, and the main titles sequence is, like, the coolest ever, but the leading couple Hamilton-Pleshette is just lifeless, and I believe the FX are well below the usual George Pal standard.
I didn't say that I don't kind of like the movie, just that it is not very good , especially compared to the asounding score.

Oh, come on!! Why everybody tend to say ST:V is bad?? No way! V is a great movie!

Personally, I can't stand IV, but that's just me...

Many (not me) will say the Star Wars Prequels.

My own personal selection would be "King Kong" (1976).

Good call on KING KONG though I can re-watch this unlike some of the other choices here. Same goes for KRULL and THE FINAL CONFLICT ( a film I saw multiple times at the cinema simply because JG's score wasn't released ), STAR TREK V is simply dreadful though.

Gotta agree. The original cast 'canon' finished neatly for me at the end of Trek IV, with Kirk in command of a new Enterprise again, exploring the galaxy. There's a few great moments in Trek V, but its a film I cannot sit through now - time is precious wink

As for the subject of this thread, have to agree on Trek V & Krull, though have a soft spot for Slipstream. With a cleaned up print (it was beautifully shot), a few extra effects shots tastefully redone and a slight nip & tuck here and there, I think it'd be a pretty decent film.
I'd add Superman IV to the list too wink

It's not just you, pal. I detest ST IV; always have. Movie *and* score. At least V has character moments and Jerry G's brilliant music.

There aren't many scores I love where the films are garbage and the score is not. I tend to love both, not one or the other.

Krull immediately comes to mind...loved the score since the early 90's when I first heard it, but finally sat through the movie about three years back, and was like WTF?!

The majority of scores far exceed the quality of the films they are written for. Today the scores suck as much as the films they accompany.
