WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII---aerial photo shows the partially-covered Millennium Falcon and an X-Wing fighter at a South London flying school.

THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY-PART 1---poster released of Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss.

BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE---photo shows the new Batmobile on the set.

STAR BLAZERS---a Japanese newspaper said writer/director Christopher McQuarrie will begin filming the movie based on the anime SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO as soon as he finishes MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 5, "My favorite characters are Captain Juzo Okita (Abraham Avatar ) and Earth Defence Force's Commander Hajime Saito (Webb Knox). I am extremely honored to be entrusted with a wonderful work such as this. I cannot wait to present it in (Yamato's homeland) Japan. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone." The movie will premiere in 2017 or 2018.

GOOD KILL---photo released from the movie starring Ethan Hawke as a former fighter pilot who is now a drone pilot and has doubts about US policy after he is ordered to target civilians. January Jones also stars.

MARRIED...WITH CHILDREN---the cast of Ed O'Neill, Katey Sagal, Christina Applegate and David Faustino reunited 17 years after the series ended for Sagal's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The reunion coincided with the premiere of the final season of SONS OF ANARCHY which Sagal co-stars in and was created by her husband Kurt Sutter.

WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT?---the producers of the animated movie originally wanted Paul Reubens (Pee-Wee Herman) to voice Roger Rabbit but Charles Fleischer later got the role according to excerpts from a 1980s special titled DISNEY STUDIO SHOWCASE. Also, producer Marc Sturdivant revealed a secret about Jessica Rabbit, "Jessica is a rabbit by marriage only. She's actually an ambitious young starlet who married Roger to further her career and now that she's been given a part in a film that she's wanted, she's cast Roger aside. She doesn't care for him anymore. Roger can't see that. He's blindly in love with her. He just doesn't see Jessica for the cunning and seductive person that she really is."

THE WALKING DEAD---Robert Kirkman said the end of the zombie comic book is in sight, "About a year or two ago, I finally nailed down exactly what I want the ending to be. So now I've kind of got two trails of story going in my head. One working to where I'm at very far into the future, and one working from the end backwards. When those two stories meet, then I'll know exactly how long the story is. I'm rapidly approaching that point."

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES---Keira Knightley said "the ship has sailed", and she's not returning for the sequel. However, Orlando Bloom said he's interested in returning.

THE THINGS THEY LEFT BEHIND---CBS pilot underway based on the Stephen King short story in which two investigators "carry out the unfinished business of the dead".

NEW ANGELES---new sci fi tv series underway starring Keanu Reeves as a man who escapes his mundane life by entering a world of virtual reality called New Angeles and must solve a mystery that is connected to his family in the real world. Roland Emmerich (INDEPENDENCE DAY) is the pilot director/co-producer.

23 JUMP STREET---the sequel is underway with the script by Rodney Rothman (22 JUMP STREET).

I'll believe it when I see it. This has been on again off again forever, just like Akira. The property is just to nationalistic for translation. (Unless they change everything about it for the US audience.) Besides the Japanese did their own live action version, and it would be nearly impossible to match that much less do better.

I agree although I also liked the Burton Batmobile a lot as well.

All the subsequent ones have been pretty horrible - didnt think much of the tumbler and the neon monstrosity in the Schumacher movies was just terrible in the extreme.

It's time to de-militarize Batman.

DC superheroes need to be rescued from Warner Brothers.

Not a good-looking vehicle.
It looks like a rejected design from a Mad Max movie.
Which is fine if it IS a Mad Max movie. But it ain't.

1966 TV version. THAT'S yer Batmobile.

Both soon to undergo RAF trials, of course...

Ummm, I like that Batman vehicle (!). Is it superhero`y? Probably not. If they presented a crimefighter in cape and tights ripping around Gotham`s underworld in a more... colourful vehicle, would people take him seriously? Probably not.

Absolutely they would not. big grin
The trad cape/tights Batman costume (and car, for that matter) was a product of its time. By necessity it has had to undergo design changes contemporary to whatever current time frames later stories are set.
Some changes are more plausible than others.

It is for this reason that, personally, I think all Batman films should be period pieces set when the character was first created. But that's just me.

Someone buy that man a drink....it's fine...it had to be different from the Nolan films, this is a different Batman....it also had to be new - this movie is set in 2015/16....Batman is bankrolled by a billionaire...of course it's going to sleek/militaristic/ultra hi-tec/latest everything...I like it.

Totally agree. Many of these superheros just don't work in modern society. They are a product of their times. Batman is just a man and even with his modern day war toys doesn't hold a candle next to the US military machine. The principles of Superman are just to idealistic for today, and he can't possibly be everywhere at once saving the day.
