    My 5 favourite films of 1940, not including the obvious out-of-competition status for
    Ferguson's et al. PINOCCHIO, are :

    BROADWAY MELODY OF 1940
    FOREIGN CORRESPONDENT
    THE GRAPES OF WRATH
    THE SHOP AROUND THE CORNER
    WATERLOO BRIDGE


    Another "nightmare year" !

    And none non-Us movie could make the final list...
