OK let's get serious, here's a little list of titles that I'd have to buy (love to buy) if they were released, looking very good on Blu-ray (region B). If they all came out at once I'd maybe have to sell a kidney:

They Died With Their Boots On '41
They Were Expendable '45
The Thing '51
Laughter In Paradise '51
The Big Sky '52
Private's Progress '56
Dunkirk '58
Danger Within '59
The Pure Hell Of St. Trinians '60
What A Carve Up! '61

Three b/w Universal box sets:

Universal Classic Horrors: The Sequels
Universal 50's Sc-Fi Movies
The Hope/Crosby "Road To" movies

Colour

Dodge City '39
Unconquered '47
Samson & Delilah '49
She Wore A Yellow Ribbon '49
Scaramouch '52

She '64
Rio Conchos '64
The Great Race '65
The Sons Of Katie Elder '65
What's New Pussycat '66
A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum '66
The Jokers '66
I'll Never Forget What's 'is Name '67
The President's Analyst '68
Start The Revolution Without Me '70
The Last Valley '71
Gui La Testa '71
&
Bad Boys 2

I'll take a look at this list a year from now, hopefully there'll be more than a handful that have been released.

Ah, in my previous life as CinemaScope I posted this list. Alas none of the b/w films have made an appearance, but 16 of the colour ones have. There's a few I can't play as they're region locked to A, & some not so good transfers, but overall not bad at all. And there's This Island Earth coming from Germany next month, Bad Boys 2 listed as being released late November early December in Australia & Scandinavia (I'll believe it when it happens). Universal working on One-Eyed Jacks, hopefully for release next year, also they're working on some of the horror sequels, maybe for next Halloween. Oh, & The Son Of Frankenstein & Frankenstein Meets The Wolfman coming out in France in October.

I have the German Open Range & it looks very nice.

EDIT. & I read on another site the Bad Boys 2 is getting a US release on November 10th.

I have been wanting Tucker the Man and his Dream on bluray.
It is a gorgeous picture, it would look and sound amazing on Blu.
Besides that it is also just a darn good movie.

I found "Balto" in HD on iTunes. Anyone know if it's any good? iTunes samples seem to be low quality and I can't judge the video by them.

Another question. When it says you get an iTunes digital copy with a Blu Ray, is it the standard or HD version? According to this page Disney titles are standard def copies not HD. frown

Edit- My original post goes back to 2012 wondering when " While You Were Sleeping" was going to get a Blu Ray release. And here we are three years later... and nothing! mad

I'd love to have Balto on Blu-Ray...they're releasing the horrid We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story on Blu this fall, but not Balto? frown

And yes, I know why they're releasing We're Back! (to tie in with the release of Jurassic World...that's why we're also getting the superior The Land Before Time), but it still stinks that so many good, non-Disney hand-drawn animated features are still MIA on Blu. frown I also want Titan A.E., The Prince Of Egypt and The Road To El Dorado.

Land Before Time coming to Blu Ray October 13th! But I wonder if they did any kind of clean up. The VHS, DVD looks pretty bad and I hope they didn't mess with the audio track like they did with An American Tail.

http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Land-Before-Time-Blu-ray/80155/

Update: Looks like LBT got the NIMH treatment. In other words zero clean up.

It looks awful. Like looking through a dirty window. Based on the screen captures it's completely un-watchable to me.

From Blu-ray.com-

"Watched it this morning. The transfer is very clearly a new HD transfer from the "new universal". (Meaning it hasn't been de-grained and over sharpened to death.) The menus have no text and this disc is clearly made for all countries. The transfer has very fine grain (extremely fine if you ask me) and has definately not undergone any major restoration or been massively tweeked with DNR or sharpening...So it is very filmic and very accurate to the original source.

Unfortunately it's also not very pretty to look at sometimes simply because the grain and dust specs are so heavy and the increase in detail only serves to reveal flaws in the original animation and optical effects. It is definately a remaster but it isn't a full blown "restoration." It's great to have the film in widescreen and is probably the best the film can look without having a revisionist-style restoration like the ones done by Lowry for Disney. (Of which I am a fan.) “

How can you not like a movie with a joke about a man losing a testicle during a basketball game?!?

The President's Analyst '68

Actually '67

I just got through watching it. Today, December 21st, is the 49th anniversary of it's opening in 1967. I watched it in HD, streaming from Amazon Prime, though I had to pay $4 for it. It looked nice, but unfortunately, the element scanned is the same IP used for the 2004 DVD.

Maybe for its 50th Anniversary next year it can get a 4K restoration, Paramount? I'm sure Criterion would snap it up. A dated satire for sure, but it still holds up remarkably well, and some of what it has to say is amazingly relevant to today, you know... like the soon-to-be president really, really needing an analyst.

We can only hope! (And for a Blu-ray next year, too!)

I rate the movie 7.5 out of 10.

Well...very late '67 & '68 in every other country, but you're right, & in fact I don't ever remember it being shown in the UK (or maybe I missed it). I love it, James Coburn is so cool & the whole thing is so sixties slick, maybe the last quarter is not quite as good as the rest. I'm keeping hold of my DVD, as I don't hold out much hope for a Blu-ray seeing as it's Paramount...but you never know.

You're the first person I've read to acknowledge that the sound on the TARAS BULBA Blu-ray (and earlier DVD, for that matter) is inappropriately mono. I haven't read a single review of either the Blu-ray or the DVD that mentions this. Apparently, no one remembers that the 1993 MGM/UA laserdisc of the film was in Dolby Surround.

It's only a short list.

Avanti! (Region A release and not the region free French disc already in issue)

Night Moves (What's holding it up?)

Searching for Bobby Fischer (My favourite film from the 90s)

Les aventuriers (Region A release of this great French film)

Taiyô wo nusunda otoko (Blu ray/4K release of this famous crime/thriller with removable English subtitles)

Okay...again...what the hell is holding up a domestic release of Kevin Costner's Open Range?

The film was a success, it was well reviewed. Costner isn't always a sure thing but when he's great, he's great, and this movie is f*cking sublime.

Ive been waiting years for "While You Were Sleeping" to come out on Blu Ray. What the heck is the hold up?! It was a huge hit!

Six years since my first post and still no While You Were Sleeping Blu Ray in the US! WTF? It's really inexplicable. Yeah I know there's a region free version from Europe. Guess I'll have to break down and get it.

It's on iTunes for $18 dollars which is a rip off. I'd never pay that much for a streaming copy.

The Abyss...was supposed to be out in 2017. Cameron's busy writing the screenplay for Avatar 7, I guess.

Also, Red Eye. Surprisingly quality Hitchcockian late entry from Wes Craven with two charismatic leads who played wonderfully off each other and a thrilling Scream-esque finale.

Previously Cameron had said that Fox's home video department was the hold up.

Red Eye would make a nice Blu Ray. My favorite Craven film, a nifty thriller that really zooms along.

It'd be nice for Peter Hyams' The Star Chamber to get a reissue. I stupidly waited on the Anchor Bay Blu and missed it. It's on the secondary market but for ridiculous money.
