Red Eye is excellent.
The dvd is just fine.

Agreed. Still, with all the other films that have received Blu-ray releases, I'm surprised this one hasn't.

It'd be nice for Peter Hyams' The Star Chamber to get a reissue. I stupidly waited on the Anchor Bay Blu and missed it. It's on the secondary market but for ridiculous money.

The existing blu of The Star Chamber is a very poor transfer. A complete HD remastering is needed, but I don't think it's going to happen.

I had hoped by now that we would have Barry Levinson's TOYS (1992), which I have always enjoyed as an entertaining Christmas movie. It seems to be forgotten. If anybody puts it out on Blu, it will likely be Shout Factory. Here's hoping...

Disney's "The Black Hole" anyone? More for the look of the movie then anything else.

Yes I have been waiting for The Black Hole. Would love if the skipped Blu Ray and put it on 4K

Always astonished to find out a movie has no domestic blu-ray, or anamorphic release.

The Kurt Russell film, Breakdown, was one recent surprise for me.

My colour list from over two years ago, with an asterisk next to the films so far released:

Dodge City '39 *
Unconquered '47
Samson & Delilah '49*
She Wore A Yellow Ribbon '49* - & looks fantastic
Scaramouch '52
Brigadoon '54
Land Of The Pharaohs '55
This Island Earth '55* - but not looking very good
Teahouse Of The August Moon '56
The Vikings '58* - but no UK release yet
L'il Abner '59
The Mummy '59*
The Alamo '60
Curse Of The Werewolf '60*
One-Eyed Jacks '61* - I'm sure there'll be a UK release in March or April
The Pit & The Pendulum '61*
The Phantom Of The Opera '61*
Tales Of Terror '62*
Taras Bulba '62* - no UK release yet, & I understand the US release is nothing to write home about - & it's mono
Kiss Of The Vampire '62*
The Raven '63*
Tom Jones '63
The Long Ships '63* - French release, not looking that great
Irma La Douce '63
Lord Jim '64* - French release, not looking that great
She '64
Rio Conchos '64*
The Great Race '65*
The Sons Of Katie Elder '65
What's New Pussycat '66* - US only, & not looking that great
A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum '66*
The Jokers '66
I'll Never Forget What's 'is Name '67
The President's Analyst '68
Start The Revolution Without Me '70
The Last Valley '71
Gui La Testa '71*
&
Bad Boys 2* - & looks fantastic

Not too bad at all, let's see how it looks at the end of the year.

Another two years on & a few more titles have made it.

Unconquered (1947) great looking Blu-ray released in Germany & France (I think this is my release of the year).
The Vikings (1958) at last a UK release.
One-Eyed Jacks a UK release
Brigadoon (1954)
Tom Jones (1963) a great release, BFI in the UK & Criterion in the US.
Irma La Douce (1963) a US & French release. The Kino US release has come in for a little criticism about the look of it. I have the French release, which has a wee bit too much noise reduction, but looks great, sharp & with colours that pop out at you.

For 2019 I'm hoping for more WAC releases that I'd like (& it's about time that Warner released Blow-Up in Europe), maybe a few Paramount catalogue titles, & I hope The Wild Bunch gets a new 50th Anniversary 4K scan.

The more time churns on, the more I believe that blu-ray is more a passing phase than DVD ever was, relegated to only current releases. Hollywood is skipping its past to streaming, and we'd better be onboard for that proprietary pain (I wouldn't know how to torrent to save my life).

  • I'd love to have Balto on Blu-Ray...they're releasing the horrid We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story on Blu this fall, but not Balto? frown

And yes, I know why they're releasing We're Back! (to tie in with the release of Jurassic World...that's why we're also getting the superior The Land Before Time), but it still stinks that so many good, non-Disney hand-drawn animated features are still MIA on Blu. frown I also want Titan A.E., The Prince Of Egypt and The Road To El Dorado.

I'm in the same pain as you are regarding this. No wonder I found The Land Before Time in anamorphic DVD recently. I almost bought it just to get the whole ordeal of waiting past me.

Balto is out on Blu Ray and looks pretty darn good. Land before Time is also out on Blu Ray and looks like GARBAGE. An American Tail is out of Blu Ray and probably looks just as bad, but add on top of that the totally f*cked up audio track. (never bought it) I got All Dogs Go To Heaven on Blu Ray and it looks fantastic.
