"Rich Man, Poor Man" should be a prime candidate for a 2CD or even 3CD set. The old Varese disc barely scratched the surface of North's superb work.

Isn't it amazing that there was never a Star Trek or Lost in Space album, but nowadays we get like 7 volumes of Dexter and Lost.

Hi, Onya.

While I understand folks such as us wished for STAR TREK soundtracks before they started appearing in 1985, I'm rather glad (in hindsight) that there weren't any LP albums of music from shows like STAR TREK or THE OUTER LIMITS or VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA when these series were being shown during the 1960s.

Series which did have corresponding vinyl records (such as THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.) were re-recordings. Guys such as Hugo Montenegro or Leroy Holmes would conduct sessions for album purposes which, although using music written for the shows, sounded quite different from the actual tracks heard within the episodes themselves.

Furthermore, these pop-orientated arrangements for the re-recording sound more 'dated' than the original material.

Would any of us want Gerald Fried's Vulcan music from "Amok Time" sounding like go-go-girl dance music??? razz

Well, Tonerow, that's a compelling argument, but it won't work on me. I happen to be a connoisseur of groovy 60s music. I'm no fan of Leroy Holmes, but I'll take Hugo Montenegro's first UNCLE LP over any of the actual soundtracks. It is one of my all-time favorite spy music albums, and not only that, I would probably include it in my top fifty favorite soundtrack albums of all time.

And Montenegro's album"Moog Power" is unbelievable. You must hear this.

Also, there are exceptions to scenarios you describe. The "I Spy" albums were very close to what was heard on the show; "Dark Shadows" used actual TV music; and others like "Peter Gunn" and "The Saint" at least captured the moods and flavor of the show, if not including the actual music.

Also, I do not subscribe to the idea that soundtrack albums need to to sound just like the film.

So, I would welcome the idea of having alternate arrangements of music from the shows you mention, and would not rule out the possibility that the albums could have sounded similar to the music on the shows.

But I get your point.

Agreed. I don't think the Montenegro UNCLE albums are any substitute for the original music as heard on the FSM albums, but they're still excellent albums which I like to listen to every few months. There's not that many albums that I can say that about. It's a pity really that he didn't do any more.

I hope the CD labels might consider doing TV westerns from the 1950s & 1960s. Shows like The Rifleman, Gunsmoke, Rawhide, Wild Wild West, Cheyenne, etc.

Not every episode, there are far too many. Just numerous key scores from various TV westerns of the 1950s & 1960s.

A massive 26 episode "mini"-series, CENTENNIAL,with an epic score by John Addison would make a wonderful CD. Obviously not every note of music in the series can make it on to a 1,2or 3 disc set. I would gladly settle for the highlights.

One quick way to get more TV music out there is to release more existing LP programs. In recent years, we've seen the releases of the LPs for Hawaii Five-0, Staccato, Mannix, Kung Fu, and the above-mentioned I Spy. Some of the others that are still out there include:

Big Valley, The (Duning) [ABC]
Dallas (John Parker) [First American]
Dick Powell Presents (Hershel Burke Gilbert, et al) [Dot]
General Electric Theater (Elmer Bernstein) [Columbia]
Hennesey (Sonny Burke) [Signature]
High Chaparral and Bonanza, The (David Rose, Harry Sukman) [Capitol]
In Search Of (Laurin Rinder, W. Michael Lewis, Steve Stewart)
Love, American Style (Charles Fox) [Capitol]
Maigret (Ron Grainer) [London]
Mr. Novak (Lyn Murray) [MGM]
Music for Loretta (Harry Lubin) [Decca]
Naked City, The (George Duning, Ned Washington) [Colpix]
Peyton Place (Randy Newman, Franz Waxman) [Epic]
Rogues, The (Nelson Riddle) [RCA]
Shotgun Slade [download only] (Gerald Fried) [Mercury]
Untouchables, The [download only] (Nelson Riddle) [Capitol]
Valiant Years, The [download only] (Richard Rodgers) [ABC-Paramount]
Wagon Train [download only] (Jerome Moross, others) [Mercury]

Can anyone explain why Robert Emmett Dolan is listed as the composer for THE VALIANT YEARS as a download at itunes ? Look at the album cover they show. Shouldn't the composer's name be Richard Rodgers?

"This" was the thread I was looking for, when I posted a few weeks ago looking for a Six Million Dollar Man soundtrack Thread.

So does this mean that LaLa Land's Mystery "ambitous" project was the X-Files 2 CD, or is it an upcoming sixties Batman project?

And does it mean, that there will be NO BIG tv soundtrack that will sink our purses this Christmas?

JThree

can somebody in the know, please tell us.

Our big classic tv project WAS originally scheduled for Black Friday this year BUT, as always, projects of this magnitude tend to take more time to produce than other projects so we have delayed it until next year.

That said, we still do have a box set planned for this year...just not a tv one.

If we are going to count television mini series as well, I just discovered a couple days ago a late '80's one called "Fresno".

It's a well done, played-straight soap drama which parodies shows like "Dynasty", "Falcon Crest" and "Dallas".

The excellent lush score with dramatic pieces was done by John Morris. There were two episodes. The complete scores should easily fit on one CD. Well worth it.
