The only sitcom to get its music released on CD was "My Favorite Martian" and sales weren't good for that, though I felt it had some good stuff ("Martian" IMO being the best of all the supernatural gimmick sitcoms of the 60s).

In some cases (Frontiere's THE INVADERS) tapes cannot be located.

Charles, go and look for them please. Yes, right now. What's the problem? You're in America aren't you? They're probably there somewhere. smile

Dear Counterpoint;

Can you tell me a bit more on why you have Dallas so high on your list? I don't recall the music to that show. Did it have a love theme for Bobby and Pamela? Was there a suite for J.R. ? Can you tell me a bit more why you like it's music?

One show that I recall (from teenage years) as having had really good music was FANTASY ISLAND, though I never see it mentioned in this sort of conversation. With the various styles of stories being told, it could make for an interestingly varied anthology-style release, too. Or maybe my recollection is simply wrong, and the music wasn't very good?

Sure, Dallas simply had some of the best composers. And each of the composers had his own unique style. John Parker for example coming from a jazz background wrote his scores in a very entertaining big band style while Richard Lewis Warren wrote IMO the best Dallas scores. His style always reminded me a bit of Jerry Fielding. When you listen to Fielding`s Lawman for example you`ll get the idea how Warren`s Dallas music sounds. And then there are of course the wonderful scores by Bruce Broughton and Lance Rubin. All very thematic and powerful.
I always was amazed how "big" the music sounded since they usually were performed by a standard size tv orchestra (25 - 30 players). I just remember one particular score by Lance Rubin that had a 40 piece orchestra.
The Dallas scores are definetely among the best scores in the history of episodic television. We probably don`t need all the music ever written for the show but 2 or 3 nice box sets with the show`s highlights would be wonderful. And I am suprised that none of the show`s scores have ever been released. I mean the show is one of the most legendary tv series ever and I can`t imagine that a well produced box wouldn`t sell.

FMS was working on unknown amounts of "Dallas" and "Knots Landing", but that announcement was about three years ago, and there's been no update in many months now.

I've read in their magazine back then they only had plans for Immel's scores.

Well, regarding TV soundtracks for live series (because in animation I would love many), in addition to 80s Beauty and the Beast, I would be longing for a John Williams TV Box set.
Also Dynasty would be great!

I gotta echo that, because even though I have little interest in old TV scores, I have a HUGE interest in John Williams' older material. And there is a big JUNGLE out there of unreleased Williams scores for TV. Check out this thread for more info:

Most of that is unreleased.

Agree with Shuki Levy, Street Hawak and A-team complete. I tried contacting Shuki Levy. Agent blew me off and told me he was playing overseas and I should go try to listen to that.

It's because people always go, "Ewwww, mono...!"

Well, what's wrong with that? I like saying "Ewwww, mono...!". It reflects how I feel. smile

What THEY said. And original tracks from BONANZA by David Rose would be great too (the MGM lp re-recording is also nice).

To Lala Land Records :

Is this ambitious, mystery project scheduled to be LaLa Land's big release for the Christmas season like last year's Star Trek set?

The TV soundtrack albums already released are plentiful and are fine releases but honestly there is so much more episode television music that needs to be released. Many of the requests from the TV 'cop shows' mentioned would be excellent candidates.

I wonder if there is a complete list somewhere for TV soundtrack already released.

As far as the mystery La La Land release that was mentioned, is it wrong to assume it's The X-Files volume 2 released recently or something else to be announced soon? I was expecting X-Files 2 sooner or later so it's no surprise to me.

Yet another addition to the list would be the 'cop show' THE ROOKIES from the early 1970's. I didn't see it mentioned. I think Elmer Bernstein had something to do with that one.

Also QUINCY M.E. which was very popular. Bruce Broughton scored many of the episodes.
