Soon after Cheyenne Autumn, Intrada is giving us another improved version of a former Lasher release, Blue Lagoon. I'd also like to see a remastered, richer-sounding version of the Label X "Best Years of Our Lives".

Didn't Lasher produce that recording? If so, seems hard to imagine he doesn't still have those rights.

Yes, it was originally one of his Entr'acte Recording Society LPs. For CD, it was last remixed and remastered 16 years ago, but I'd guess/hope there's still room for a worthwhile improvement.

Yea,
Exactly what has been delaying CONAN THE DESTROYER?

I know Poledoiris disliked the recording due to the reduced orchestra budget.
But I still like the contrast in performance and the smaller orchestra compliments the less-than-epic moments in DESTROYER.

But
Soooooo awesome BLUE LAGOON!!
Finally!!!!!!

I suspect you're right, but I just don't see how Intrada could do it.

DICK TRACY was a "comic STRIP" not a "comic book." So, maybe not that one.

True but the movie was known for only having the colors found in comics, hence the primary color hint; not many of those from the early 90's.

I kind of "grew out of" liking THE BLUE LAGOON for a reason I can't quite put my finger on. I loved the LP when it first came out, but now I hear it (when I hear it) as sort of... overly sentimental. Maybe it's just that I've turned into a crusty old cynic. Or perhaps Elmer Bernstein is to blame, with his straight, dramatic approach to comedy, or Ira Newborn for a similar reason. Whatever, when I hear Basil Poledouris' music, it conjures up a picture in my mind of an athletic young man looking out to sea, his back to the camera, and with long blond hair flowing down. Then he turns to the camera, we cut to a close-up... and it's Leslie Nielson's face.

Just a nit pick I have with the films marketing. There's only three primary colors- red, yellow and blue. They bunch in secondary colors, green, purple and orange into the mix.

I think the likelihood that Roger was using less exact comic-related wording is far, far greater than the likelihood that there was another primary color (apologies, solium) comic film from the '90s with a score to reissue that we've somehow all forgotten.

I love this post, Graham. Very funny.

I don't have any experience of this film or score (there was no way in hell I was ever gonna see it when it first came out, and the scenes I've seen over the years seem laughable). But I'm listening to the original album on youtube and finding the music far more varied than I expected. Curiously it feels less sentimental than I expected. To me, it sounds like an 80's soap opera with some action/adventure thrown in. I might just pick this up.

I played The Blue Lagoon this morning. Beautiful score. Never saw the film, anything significant missing from the previous releases?

From Doug's Corner on the Intrada website:

This time around, for our latest CDs, we’re offering two releases, both of which are terrific scores written by master composers when their careers were still on the rise. Both are also newly restored editions of classic albums with previously unreleased music. One runs about 62 minutes and fits on a single disc, the other runs over 100 minutes and requires two discs. This time around, film studios represented include Sony and Disney. That’s as far as my thinking goes. Further - and most likely better - clues are up to Roger. In any case, cover art, tracks and sound samples will be posted on our site this coming Monday eve, November 14. Orders for both titles will begin shipping on Tuesday the 15th.

The Blue Lagoon and Dick Tracy it is.

The original CD was 34:50, which means we're getting over an hour of new material!

Dick Tracy is going to be spectacular!! I am trying to remember off-hand how much score was in the film right now. I think it was roughly 45-50 minutes. I am so happy to scratch another score off of my grail list! Hopefully this release allows a lot of people to hear this great Elfman score! It's up there with BeetleJuice, Pee-Wee, Batman and Darkman as far as classic old-school Elfman goes.

I would have really loved to have seen the songs included on this expansion. Especially to finally get the never released film mixes of 'Now I'm Following You' and 'Back In Business'. But I do understand licensing and legal fees were probably too much or problematic.

Intrada, as far as my order goes..."I'm on my way!"

There was a good deal of dropped score from DT, as I recall, and Danny had to re-do a number of cues. The new release should be a revelation.

Blue lagoon is temporarily out of stock, less than three months since it went on sale, hope it won't take the same time to be back in stock as first blood (which is already back in stock) or avengers
