I got my "key" Quincy season once S4 came out. I'm still miffed that Shout leaves "Ironside" and "Marcus Welby MD" in limbo land among Universal titles.

Shout's days of releasing Sony catalog titles appears to be over. So no more "Fantasy Island", "Police Woman", "Police Story", "Rookies" from them.

Given the "express" treatment of some recent Universal acquisitions, do you think Ironside and Welby would have had a better chance if they started now? Is the business model a little different? Or do you think these shows that had been started by Universal themselves just really do sell a lot more copies?

I'm also very disappointed at the cessation of Police Story.

Could be they might have fared better now. "Ironside" had a really bad history with Shout where they released two seasons retail then stalled it for three years and released S3 and S4 in their "Select" program and then after telling us S5 and S6 would be coming in 2011 their rep then said they never licensed the remaining seasons! Welby never even got a shot at their "Select" program which I think is the real unfair part. Of course their "Select" program which was supposed to be the on-line sales version only for limited pressings basically went kaputt a long time ago.

I don't hold them responsible for unfinished Fox titles they licensed because Fox as we know pulled the plug on everything they licensed out to other companies.

Anyone watched the 1972 cop series "The Rookies" (Sony)?
What do you think about it? Is it like "The Mod Squad"?

PS: Fox-wise, "The Big Valley" is so missed.

No, it's more of a traditional cop show.

Finally, after eight years, Hardy Boys is complete on DVD!

My prurient reason for wanting it was to see Anne Lockhart of Battlestar Galactica in full bikini splendor. big grin

Having met Anne, she is still a knockout. Her mom at her advanced age is a delight as well.

Finally, we’ve confirmed with all parties involved that the listing on Amazon for Space: 1999 – Season Two on Blu-ray is actually for DVD – the very same disc released by A&E and New Video previously, just re-issued by Lionsgate. Network in the U.K. tells me they are well along in developing plans for the Blu-ray release of Season Two, but don’t expect it before mid-2014.

http://thedigitalbits.com/columns/my-two-cents/032113_1400

Also, we’ve learned a bit of discouraging news about Space: 1999 – Season Two. Our sources at Network in the U.K. (which does the actual restoration and remastering work on the series) tell us that Season Two Blu-ray is now a mid-2014 title on their project slate. So it seems likely that the Amazon listing is an error or other miscommunication between Amazon and Lionsgate. We’re still waiting to hear back from Lionsgate, but that’s the way it’s looking right now. Lionsgate can’t release it if Network hasn’t finished the work yet. Again, more as it comes in.

At least they're doing it. The prints for Year 2 of 1999 look great for SD and will suit me fine in the interim. Thanks for the update.

"The Virginian" will now be completed on DVD with the release of Season 8 on July 16 (the final season "Men From Shiloh" has already been released). This makes it the longest running western series to have its run completed on DVD now (long ways off from the same for "Gunsmoke" or "Bonanza")

"Dr. Kildare" S1 now coming from Warner Archive. Getting this will allow the FSM CD to get more listening than I've given it! (often is the time I got a CD title as insurance for when the film or TV show would finally emerge on DVD).

Judging from that artwork, were Lorne Greene and Pernell Roberts' hair airbrushed on? (they both wore toupees!)

I wonder when the British company Optimum Home Entertainment will ever release a BD edition of "The Avengers" (starring Patrick McNee)?
