The Mod Squad - Half-Season Sets Scheduled for 'Season 3' and 'Season 4'
All part of VEI's lead-up to their forthcoming 'Complete Series' set
This past New Years' Eve we broke the news that Visual Entertainment Inc. (VEI) is working on a release for The Mod Squad - The Complete Series on DVD. That package is still in production, and we hope to have more info about that in the not-too-distant future. But in the meantime, VEI is continuing in the vein of CBS/Paramount's original half-season sets, which were put out from 2007 to 2009 and covered the first two seasons (out of five total). There are different dates that can be found elsewhere on the internet, but we've confirmed with the studio that the dates below reflect their current plans!
On September 24th, Visual Entertainment's U.S. distributor, Millennium, will ship The Mod Squad - The 3rd Season, Volume 1 and Volume 2, at $24.99 SRP each. Then they'll swiftly follow it up with an October 1st bow of The 4th Season, Volume 1 and Volume 2, at $21.99 SRP each. All are shown to be 4-disc sets, but bear in mind that those details (including dates and costs) are per Amazon.com's listings, and could be subject to change.

In Search of... - Individual Season Sets for All 6 Seasons of the Classic Show with Leonard Nimoy
The first two seasons are already available, with two more today and the last two coming next month
Last December, VEI (Visual Entertainment Inc.) released the long-awaited classic Leonard Nimoy series In Search of..., with every episode (including the revival show starring Mitch Pileggi, and the two pilot specials hosted by Rod Serling), in the 19-DVD gift set The Complete Collection. Since then the studio released, this past February 12th, an individual Season 1 set, with the first of Nimoy's six seasons. A few weeks ago they followed up with a separate Season 2 set; both are priced at $19.99 SRP.
Amazon.com is showing that today, August 20th, is the date that the next two DVD sets are available: Season 3 ($19.99 SRP) and also Season 4. VEI tells us that these sets have shipped out to their U.S. distributor, Millennium, but that the packages may not have actually made it to retailers (such as Amazon) just yet. Keep in mind that many smaller studios use slower over-land shipping methods (trucks and so forth) rather than costlier overnight-air drop shipments, meaning that stores can honor street date if the product has arrived in time...but it's possible that the product might not arrive until later on.
VEI/Millennium will finish the Nimoy run of the show, in individual season sets, with the September 10th street date of Season 5 and Season 6, both priced - per Amazon's listings - at $14.99 SRP each. All six of these seasons came as 3-DVD sets in The Complete Collection, so are expected to be the same way as separate packages.

Ron Ely finishes his legendary run as Edgar Rice Burroughs' immortal creation Tarzan in this action and star-packed second season. This 6-Disc, 26-Episode Collection finds Tarzan, Cheetah and Jai (Manuel Padilla) facing some fearsome foes while coming to the aid of some famous faces. First off, Tarzan takes on a tiger in one of the series' most acclaimed episodes, guest starring James Whitmore.
This is followed by a panoply of stars, including George Kennedy, Helen Hayes and James MacArthur (playing mother and son!), James Earl Jones, Woody Strode, Clarence Williams III, Robert Loggia, Geoffrey Holder, Fernando Lamas and Ted Cassidy. And that's not to mention the titanic two-parter "The Four O'Clock Army," which teams recurring guests Julie Harris and Maurice Evans in defense of a village under siege by slavers. Oh, and we should probably mention that Ethel Merman drops by the jungle, as do Diana Ross and The Supremes!Following last year's release of the first season starring Ron Ely, the folks at the Warner Archive Collection have announced plans to finish the show's run with next Tuesday's release of Tarzan - The Complete 2nd Season. Becoming available on September 17th are the final 26 episode on DVD, a manufacture on demand (MOD) set which will cost $49.95 SRP. Package art is below, along with a button link to pre-order this item from the WBshop online studio store. They only ship MOD titles to U.S. customers, but fans outside the States should stay tuned because Amazon's CreateSpace MOD program will also be selling this as well

A week ago we broke the news that Salvage 1 - Hard Water is coming to DVD on December 3rd, as one of Sony's MOD (manufacture on demand) titles. Now the studio has scheduled another release from show, but on an even earlier date! Salvage 1 - Golden Orbit, a two-part story from the show's first season, will be available on November 5th. Sony describes it this way: "The Jettison Salvage Company attempts to salvage a solid gold satellite." Andy Griffith, Joel Higgins and Trish Stewart are joined in this adventure by Barry Nelson (TV's My Favorite Husband, The Hunter, Climax!'s "Casino Royale"), Edward Winter (M*A*S*H, Herman's Head), and Mykelti Williamson (Justified, 24). Pricing and box art on this item (and on Hard Water) isn't available yet, but stay tuned for updates!

It's the Moore the merrier as Jack Kelly teams up with new cast member Roger Moore for the fourth rollicking season of Maverick. Faces may change, but the card and con games remain the same, as Beau Maverick (Moore) deals himself in with his cousin Bart (Kelly) as they take on murder frame-ups, crooked sheriffs, cursed goldmines, comely witches and more in this complete 32-episode collection.
Featuring appearances by Spaghetti Western icon Lee Van Cleef, Oscar-winner George Kennedy and The Time Tunnel's Robert Colbert as the third Maverick brother Brent, Season Four highlights also include James Garner's final series appearance (The Maverick Line), director Robert Altman's episode "Bolt from the Blue" and "Hadley's Hunters," featuring cameos by Warner Bros.' legendary Western stars John Russell and Peter Brown (Lawman), Ty Hardin (Bronco), Will Hutchins (Sugarfoot) and Clint Walker (Cheyenne).
Warner's MOD (manufacture on demand) program, the Warner Archive Collection, has today announced that the next-to-last season of the classic western show will come to DVD on January 7th with Maverick - The Complete 4th Season. Priced at $49.95 SRP, the studio description quoted above makes it very clear that this set will include all 32 episodes of the penultimate season. However, the Roger Moore-featured package art shown below - taken from the WBshop online store's pre-order listing (see button link below) - clearly says that this item is "The Complete 4th Season - Part 1"; we believe that this is an error which is likely to be cleared up soon (or else possibly the studio is packaging them in two half-season sets, which will be shipped as a "Complete Season" bundle, but so far only have art for the first half...we're just guessing here).

When Kowalski and Geller (the eventual creators of Mission: Impossible) took over Rawhide in 1964, they pulled off a daring experiment that has never been matched in the history of television. The new producers upended Rawhide, dismantling western myths and muddying genre barriers with surgical precision and undisguised glee. Geller and Kowalski commissioned teleplays like “Corporal Dasovik,” a Vietnam allegory which portrayed the cavalry as slovenly, dishonorable, and homicidal, and “The Meeting,” a surreal clash between the drovers and a prototypical mafia on a weirdly barren plain. The two-part “Damon’s Road” was a rowdy shaggy-dog comedy, complete with infectious Geller-penned showtunes (“Ten Tiny Toes”) and a subplot that reduces Fleming’s hero to buffoonery, pushing a railroad handcar across the prairie in his longjohns.
Geller and Kowalski’s Rawhide segments may be the finest television westerns ever made. Taken as a whole, they represent a comprehensive rebuke to the myth of the Old West. They anticipate the brutal, disillusioned revisionist western films made by Sam Peckinpah and others in the following decade. Peckinpah’s The Westerner (1959) and Rod Serling’s The Loner (1965-1966) touch upon some of the same ideas, but they do not take them nearly as far. Not until Deadwood, forty years later, did television produce another western that looked, felt, and smelled like the seventh season of Rawhide.
The only problem with the Geller-Kowalski Rawhide, which the producers undoubtedly understood, was that it had little to do with the Rawhide that had come before. Many observers just didn’t get it, including Eric Fleming, who refused to perform some of the material. (Eastwood, apparently, got the idea, and Geller and Kowalski shifted their attention from Fleming’s character to his.) Another non-believer was William S. Paley, the president of CBS, who was aghast at what had been done to one of his favorite programs. Paley fired Geller, Kowalski, and their story editor Del Reisman in what they termed “the Christmas Eve Massacre.” Paley uttered one of television history’s most infamous quotes when he ordered their replacements to “put the cows back in.”

Several of Favor's men are sick with a mysterious illness. Favor and the sick men make it to the abandoned Gray Rock Hotel where they are protected from the cold and wind. They find a beautiful but strange woman with dangerous past.
Guest starring: Steven Hill.
This episode marked the first time I had seen "Rawhide" in almost 50 years. Ironically, this was the final episode in the eight-year run of the series. Thus, it was kind of fun to see a very young Clint Eastwood and the star of the show, Eric Fleming, who I hadn't seen in years. That's because the man died in 1966 drowning while filming not long after this Rawhide episode.
Anyway, this episode was all about Lola Albright, the sex siren from the "Peter Gunn" TV series. Here, she guested as "Lottie," a disturbed - as we find out - woman who isn't as sweet as she looks.
The episode was very stagy and melodramatic but also was fantastically filmed with many scenes a film-noir director would be envious. With that, and Albright's looks, there was a lot to ogle.....but don't expect an action-packed western story.

You mean the last episode with Eric Fleming as Gil Favor. The last episode of "Rawhide" was "Crossing At White Feather",, in which Eastwood took over.
