A few years back, I purchased a book of the works of Gustave Dore, but I can't seem to find it at the moment. I always liked the look of his drawings for some reason. Do his works count?

Of course it does. smile I haven't dismissed anything here, though my personal emphasis is on Modern Art, I've already stated that the likes of Frank Frazetta and Ralph McQuarrie are heroes of mine.

McQuarrie is a hero of mine as well, as I've probably stated somewhere on this board before. Same goes for Frazetta. smile

That lurid cover drew me in, but it's not available through interlibrary loan. Dang!

I got a different book through the library, about McGinnis' paperback covers. I learned that he painted a cover that I've remembered my whole life since I saw it.

It was a "stand-up" in the bookstore when the novel came out. It hit me between the eyes and made me dizzy.

straight or gay, his covers drove us all a little bit crazy - a big part of our adolescent sexual longings!

THE new book has a reproduction of this and mentions that "nervous retailers' put a sticker on the cover that obscured some of the man's posterior (also pictured)
So, David did you see the original or the 'censored' version?

I'm finding that I really did send to the thrift store the book on fashion illustrator Carl Erickson (aka "Eric").

Small as it was, it might be the only book about him ever published.

Darn it.

It was a standup in the store, so there was no sticker.

Strike that. Reverse it. I just found it, buried among the cookbooks.

Okay. Confession over for now. Back to Star Wars, Star Trek, and pointless bickering. wink

NOT SO FAST.....

I also own this book by De Es Schwertberger, some fascinating surreal/fantasy art.

There's an upcoming book, "Berlin Metropolis 1918-1933", that has me feeling "junk sick" with withdrawal:

More sensational confessions. "Babes at the Museum" is a novel concept in that it combines great art with beautiful women who'd give me the brush off like Allan Felix in "Play it Again, Sam":

The average FSMer purchases 68 soundtrack CDs a day and you're giving me grief about the occasional art book buy?

Just for that I won't bump your "Joe MacDonald Had a Noir (E-I-E-I-O)..." thread. razz
