Agreed, Dan, but I just have a thing about seeing people burnt to death. I can't stand to see any reference to it. I get physically ill.

BUT.....I have wonderful, wonderful news!!!!!

I have found yet another source for watching Equalizer shows! Now, this one does take a few downloads. I held my breath and did them and so far all is OK. I hate to download anything to my computer, but in this case it was worth it. I think all of The Equalizer shows are there (haven't made a complete inventory yet) including some of the ones missing from Videosurf (I just finished watching First Light). And the quality is much better. And you can watch them all one right after the other, as on Megavideo you could only watch 72 minutes of video at a time. And here's the best part: I understand you can SAVE THEM TO YOUR HARD DRIVE! I haven't tried this yet, but I will soon.

Now I have a question: can I post the links here?

Oh, I just had to go back to Control's name. I still think he would have to have some sort of real name to sign to things like contracts and disclosure notices and stuff like that at work, but I did find out there was someone in British Intelligence who is - was - only known as ADI-53. I guess he's a real person and I have no idea how they came up with that one, but I just thought I would throw it out there. I checked the name on Wikipedia and came up with nothing, but I do expect to see some people in long coats knocking at my door any day now.

That last was a joke. smile

Thanks! I posted the other link before I thought to ask, so I figured I better not do it again without permission. embarrassment

Re the Blue Sky Dancers: thanks for the link, love the pics of the show and the timeline, but I do believe I'll take a pass on the fan fiction meself. My fascination with the characters seems to extend only to the shows they're in.

But I did go through the timeline and I will admit to being taken by surprise once or twice, mainly because I keep forgetting this is 2011 and not 1987 which I can remember clearly, unfortunately. Scary, that. I did wonder though...the timeline stated McCall's daughter died at 18 months...I could have sworn somewhere in the show she had died when she was 5 years old and I always thought she was born before Scott. grumble, grumble Now I will have to go through the shows one at a time again until I can be sure of what I think I heard - or saw.

Some other small items of interest: the timeline states Control's wife left him years earlier, however in Dead Drop, Control is still clearly wearing a wedding ring. And then there's our favorite bloopers - you may already know this one: in The Cup when McCall and Mickey are sitting and eating on the couch, the first scene shows them with empty wineglasses. A following closeup of Mickey reveals a half full wineglass in front of him. The next panned view shows Mickey and McCall with empty wineglasses in front of them again and McCall is opening the wine bottle. Ah, such is TV. And if I drank wine that fast, well, never mind. LMAO

I had only watched scattered episodes of this show over the years, but the other day I *finally* took my long neglected S1 DVD set off the shelf and went through the first four episodes in one night (plus Michael Sloan's commentary on the pilot episode). Needless to say, I am now hooked in to enjoy this show on all levels and will enjoy getting through the rest of S1 (I have also transferred my old 1990 USA recording of the 1987 "Blood And Wine" episode). Too bad the rest of the show is MIA on regular DVD releases for now.

I shall be glad to offer thoughts. smile

I think what I liked about the setup is how while McCall is set-up as leaving the Agency/Company because of his distaste for his work, it doesn't result in him becoming a total renegade as it were (i.e. some kind of would-be whistleblower who has to fear for his life from the displeased Company or the government at every turn). The give and take that goes on between him and Control is fascinating to see and it helped establish a strong dynamic that they could utilize when necessary but that didn't have to factor in every episode.

BTW, Michael Sloan's commentary notes how the climactic scene of the pilot which was filmed on a ferry was supposed to be done on the Roosevelt Island tram and that they started shooting there, but the logistics proved too difficult so they scrapped that footage and changed the locale.

Related to that, it's fascinating to now be able to look back and see NY in the 80s preserved on film the way I remembered it from a more mature perspective. While there's some improvement over the level of how it looked in the 70s, you can still see a lot of unattended sleaze (subways still covered in graffiti, Times Square still with more porn theaters) that would still stay that way another decade.

"The Defector" was a strong early episode. "Lady Cop" I felt suffered from the fact that the actors who played the crooked cops were way too over the top from the opening scene. That one could have used some directorial restraint.

And in rewatching "Blood And Wine" when transferring that, I have to say that it helped to watch the early episodes before revisiting it, because it drives home just how moved McCall is at the end for him to be wiping a tear away, since you know this is not something he's easily prone to do.

Hang on, Eric. Neotrinity is checking to see if I can get permission to post a link of where to watch ALL the episodes of The Equalizer. If you don't want to wait, you can add an @yahoo behind my user name here and I will give you the specifics via email. Please don't anyone worry about spammers. This is not my main email, it's my at-the-front, spam only, give-this-email-to-everyone email addy.

Also, if you get a chance, check out First Light for some really great back and forth between Control and McCall. It was absolutely delightful!

Neotrinity (how do I shorten that? Is that even allowed?), I don't think it was either of those two episodes where I heard McCall mention his daughter's age and it wasn't any of the Manon episodes either. But It seems to have stuck in my mind, so I must have heard something. On the other hand, the ravages of age may be creeping up on me. Who knows what I remember and forget these days? Certainly not me!

Which reminds me....are we still trying to solve the mystery of "nothing real happened after 1957"?

"Turns out our closest, oldest and dearest Friend and theatrical colleague, Pittsburgh’s First Lady of the Stage, Helena Ruoti, is good friends (their kids went to the same schools) with Tom Atkins, who played the key FBI liaison agent between Edward Woodward and Telly Savalas in our choice for the Greatest Equalizer of ‘Em All, “Blood and Wine”."

WOOHOOHOO!

Okey dokey. And I am...happy. Star Trek (which by the way is the ONLY sci-fi show I like) and The Equalizer. Now all we need are the ghost hunters.....

So regarding the 1957 thing...I read "Think conspiracy", so I did. And there are lots and lots and lots of them. To begin with, in the episode, I take it McCall is being sarcastic. Something to start with. So here we have the 2nd Red scare which is supposed to have gone from 1947 to 1957. To quote Wikipedia: "The threat of "Godless communism" in the form of a state atheistic and bureaucratic collectivist world government, demonized as a "Red Menace", therefore became the main focus of apocalyptic millenarian conspiracism." One would assume this was especially true during 1957 and of course, began to really fuel fears of New World Order. And among the many things NWO was afraid of and rallied against was mind control. Hmmm...

Of course, there are other things as well. There was the Cayo Loco Mutiny & Overthrow Conspiracy in Cuba, the WIndscale Fire coverup/conspiracy in England, the Comstock conspiracy from the TV show Maverick, a movie called Operation Conspiracy, all in 1957. Osamam bin Laden was born in 1957 and a man named John Kasper served eight months for conspiracy in 1957 and if you take his last name, you will realize it is close to Caspar which is a ghost which in turn is a synonym for a spook and is also what CIA agents are called.

October 1957 was when Sputnik I was sent into orbit and I believe 1957 was also the first time the American Mafia organized itself (need to check this - I may be wrong) and there are countless alien conspiracies in 1957 as well. Take your pick.

Am I having fun with this stuff or what?

I will continue to search for conspiracies if you like. Most of them will probably have a more alien/paranormal bent rather than bents of political persuasions, since I am more into the paranormal than politics and I have more paranormal websites of both skeptics and fanatical believers at my disposal to peruse. I believe, but I am a skeptic myself.

OK, now, can anyone tell me the origin of the phrase "old son"? I can't find any etymology for it at all. It definitely is a CIA oriented phrase. I know I've seen it before in a couple of other spy novels and Dick Francis uses it in Trial Run, which has the main character going to Moscow. I know I had heard it before it was used in The Equalizer too. Any info would be appreciated.

"Neo meant that you were saluting the #1 Raquel fan at this place, which is me".

Ah, I understand now. However, it was worth being confused to see the pic of Johnny there. *thumbs up* *double triple thumbs up*

NeoT,
Alas, as for TANS, I don't understand the reference or recognize the picture (I am still in shock over Yahoo this week, so I'm a little slow).

May I add, I have just finished an online exchange on our local newspaper forum with a gentleman who is diametrically opposed to what I believe in pretty much every way (just as well - my brain gets no workout responding to people that agree with me) and so far I have restrained myself from pointing out that McCall would be more tolerant. Yup, you guessed it. He uses the Equalizer as his user name.

Ahhhhh, yes, there are still many surprises.

Er, wow. I didn't even recognize her in that pic at first. I will be the first one to admit though, I have never watched TV that much. I am probably the only person in America who never saw an episode of Friends, for instance.

So how is watching our team on that new link going? You guys able to see the episodes?
