I'd buy a complete Dracula rerecording in a millisecond... I've argued before that that Nic Raine would inevitably rush some of the cues on a re-recording of this score; some of the cues that need a greater retard or greater dynamic contrast to be effective (see "The Night Visitor" cue to see what I mean.). It doesn't mean a Tadlow/Prometheus recording of this would be bad. It would only mean that we'd all be spending 20-plus dollars, and still need the Varese CD to derive maximum impact out of some of these cues. A harsh judgement I realize, Ford Thaxton, but the COPP's recording history validates it. A long-developed state of generally excellent performances under duress is not a state of complete excellence.

Hello everybody, Informations updated: 04/13/2017. Although I can not go into too much detail about the following, a very reliable source of mine had the following exchange with three people involved in the original dubbing and recording of 1979's DRACULA. Most unfortunately, following the original sessions held at Anvil studios, most of the master stereo tapes were ERASED. This was done at the time for outrageous reasons, i.e.: crass commercial ones. Anvil Studios was then in deep financial trouble, hence most of the surviving tapes were erased and reused for other commercial purposes. This is very sad news indeed. Personaly, I can't believe the late Eric Tomlinson would have approved such an awful turn of events. Suffice to say, the people in charge at Anvil Studios then were responsible for such a terrible decision, just a few months shy before their closing in mid-1980 (August '80.) This is a major loss in filmmusic History.
