I haven't kept up with Varese releases lately. Based on recent Varese evidence, how much of the score do you guys suppose would be on their new edition of DRACULA? I know we're past the days of 30-odd-minute deals, but would it be complete and plush with bonus tracks, like our favorite boutique labels do them? Worst case: they'd put out a decent, mid-length CD, followed a year later by the nearly-complete 2-disc set. And the 2-disc set would be missing some little but beautiful thing that's on the single-disc release.

Yes, bad sounding mono tapes that the rights holders rightfully don't want to master and release. MV MV, of course you can ignore this, but do you know (and can you explain for us) how this happened? I mean how it happened that stereo tapes were lost & only bad sounding mono tapes survived? At least, I always thought that as it's Williams, so most (if not all) scores from that period survives and only waiting, when LLL/Intrada/Varese etc. will release them... I'll chime in here. Studios often didn't keep stereo masters when the film was released in mono. That is why you don't have stereo versions of older scores. The studio only needed the mono master for mixing. James And don't forget Universal had that major fire several years back and lot of stock went up in smoke. Not saying Dracula was one of them, but it could have been. I know the company that does have the rights wants to continue their search and find the best elements possible. Hopefully they will some day (perhaps they have already. My intel dates back about 6 months ago). Until then a brand new re-recording would be most welcome. MV

actually that post seems to be on page 7 in that thread (near bottom) http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?forumID=1&pageID=7&threadID=107664&archive=0 When you're logged out it's on page 7. When you're logged in, it's on the page I attached (page 18). Maybe because it's Varese, so the tapes might as well still be lost as God know when we'll see anything from them. At the rate they release stuff it could be years. Well, I thought since James Fitzpatrick didn't go on with his plans of a re-recording, it would be released soon.

Varese has certainly not let shitty-sounding tracks get in the way of releasing an album before.
