The Kritzerland release, if I'm not mistaken, came from the UK EP master, and I believe it is mono.
The initial incarnation of Herrmann's Twisted Nerve was on one side only of a U.K. Polydor LP... The disc did not have any concurrent U.S.A. counterpart release, so this British LP was the only source until its contents were re-issued on CD via Kritzerland.
...the 6 selections on Twisted Nerve are in stereo; the French EP on The Bride Wore Black is what I think you are confusing this with.
Thanks for straightening that out, Zardoz. My recollection was that Kritzerland's Twisted Nerve was stereo, but I didn't feel like digging it out to make sure.
The Kritzerland release, if I'm not mistaken, came from the UK EP master, and I believe it is mono. Stylotone's album was the first release of the full score, and it is in stereo.
Did it come from the master or did was it a vinyl transfer?
Onya: the 6 selections on Twisted Nerve are in stereo; the French EP on The Bride Wore Black is what I think you are confusing this with.
Stephen W: I assume James Nelson did a vinyl transfer with Twisted Nerve as it appears he had done just the same for the other Polydor-to-Kritzerland re-issues: John Mandel's The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea and (Patrick) John Scott's Rocket to the Moon
I agree with you, haineshisway. Nevertheless, when an FSM member (such as 'Last Child' or myself) ask whether an album master is generated from LP transfers or original recording session elements, there tends to be silence from the labels rather than a verification of the sources.
I recall Ford A. Thaxton replying to such an inquiry by stating that people who like to eat hot dogs shouldn't learn how hot dogs are made.
thx99, do you mind telling me the website? I am looking for some other album cover scans, including The Bride Wore Black, 7th Voyage of Sinbad, etc. etc.

I found it through a Google Image search initially, but I tracked down two source sites:
Amazingly, when the LP of TWISTED NERVE was first released, only 3 Bernard Herrmann film scores had made it to the marketplace - THE EGYPTIAN, THE 7th VOYAGE OF SINBAD and VERTIGO (plus some isolated pieces like the "Concerto Macabre" & "Jennie's Theme"). Shortly after TWISTED NERVE, Herrmann began a series of re-recordings of his film work and fans could hear a little more. Nowadays we enjoy so much and I think we kind of take it for granted.
As regards the contents of the original release of TWISTED NERVE versus the Stylotone issue, I made a comparison between the two which revealed the following...
The original TWISTED NERVE soundtrack contains:
1.) Main Title (omitting a short Prelude included in the Stylotone) 2.) The Detective 3.) The Twisted Nerve - Jazz 4.) Second Meeting (omits a passage of solo whistling heard on Stylotone's rendering) 5.) Martin's Anger 6.) Swimming (this track contains three cues identified on the Stylotone release as Swimming/Getting Dressed/Flowers I) 7.) Finale (this track also combined multiple pieces Stylotone identifies as The Signature/The Telephone/There Was No Reply/The House (shortened from the original)/Finale) 8.) The Twisted Nerve (here we have the only track not replicated in the otherwise comprehensive Stylotone package - a pop rendering of the main theme including a whistler that appears to have been created for the album release)
8.) The Twisted Nerve (here we have the only track not replicated in the otherwise comprehensive Stylotone package - a pop rendering of the main theme including a whistler that appears to have been created for the album release)
