There's a listing for The Avengers CD on Amazon.co.uk. It's listed as Walt Disney records rather than Hollywood records which is doing the Avengers Assemble album so hopefully it's the Silvestri score.

I think Jack The Giant Killer is complete (since it's had trailers out since December, back when it was scheduled for June 2012). And since Ottman isn't attached to anything else right now, it is extremely likely that he does Iron Man 3.

(though how someone can call them "not outstanding or inventive" based on snippets of nothing is beyond me...I mean please!!).

you know, it is quite not really unusual to express a feeling and an opinion based on some decades of experiencing something even if there are only (actually quite long compared to the length of the entire thing) excerpts you are exposed to.
Don't want to desillusion - but that's what happens in the world every day inummerable times.
Actually, those snippets are still, like what, 1/5, 1/6 or 1/7 of a single cue? So quite long.

But apologies for offending, I like Cap very much and I think I will also like this one very much, and I am quite sure it will be very good - which is not outstanding.
Silvestri's templates are still fun to listen to, but being honest, what's the point in naming it not like what it is: fun yes, inventive or surprising definitely no COMPARED to his output in the last decades - of course, it IS inventive listening to it without that.
Sorry that I can't help but figure out connections between his newer and former scores.

Anyway - looking forward to it very much.

And since Ottman isn't attached to anything else right now, it is extremely likely that he does Iron Man 3.

Well, the point is there's absolutely no reason to believe that Ottman or anyone else is "extremely likely" to score IRON MAN TRIOS at this time. You're basing your statement on 1) the director worked with Ottman before and 2) Ottman doesn't seem to have any plans for next summer right now. That's a pretty big assumption, and it's how baseless rumors get started. If your suppositions are always true then, say, David Newman would have scored THE AVENGERS. He did Whedon's previous movie, and as far as we know, he hasn't had a movie to do in a while. That logic also assumes that directors never change collaborators ever, which is, of course, simply untrue as well. I guess there's no arguing with you if you're 100% convinced that Ottman will be scoring IM3, and that he should book his recording time for it immediately, but perhaps it's wise to hold off until someone associated with the production or at least Marvel indicates that he's got the job, eh?

Didn't someone post pictures of Ottman's Grand Cherokee parked outside Shane Black's house? That has to be confirmation!

YES! Intrada is releasing the score... AND it's longer than the download! This, my friends, is wonderful news. We know it will be done right with these fine folk working on it.

For the 2012 Marvel Studios release The Avengers, composer Alan Silvestri returns to duty following his Captain America (2011) score. Building on his style established for the earlier film, Silvestri broadens beyond just one super hero to an entire team. This large-scale special-effects extravaganza called for music that is equally large and dynamic, armed with themes, action and thrills. It features 80 musicians and in the words of Joss Whedon, "Alan has provided a score that is so specific, so narrative-based, but still has the undeniable power and fluidity of those more diffuse accompaniments. You can hear the themes, the moments...and just bathe in the greatness." While Silvestri's theme for Captain America returns, he also introduces a host of others, including one of the score's highlights -- the theme for Black Widow -- introduced as a lonely, plucked, theme with an eastern European flavor to define this character. For this release, Alan Silvestri and David Bifano produced an album featuring 75 minutes of score on this exclusive CD release from Hollywood Records and Intrada.

Wow, listen to the above music. Whedon has a great quote about Silvestri. You'll hear some Elfman first, then Captain America, and finally The Avengers. Go to 11:50 for The Avengers. The first part is The Arrival. I think from 14:50 on is the group Avengers' theme, and it is bold and loud, and I like it.

VERY cool. Sounds like Joss Whedon is letting Silvestri do what he does best. smile

Damn, I didn't think I'd be underwhelmed... frown

The theme is undeniably Silvestri, but I'm just not into it as much as GI Joe, The A-Team, or Captain America. I'll still be buying it though

I hope Marvel's The Avengers' score is better than all three of those scores combined. B/c I thought GI Joe was lackluster and A-team was an improvement but wasn't great either. Captain America was good but nothing special, imo. Hopefully Silvestri delivers the goods for Marvel's Avengers.

Wow! The movie may look iffy, but the score sounds like a winner. Silvestri has really been on a terrific role these last few years with one great action score after another, and this sounds like it continues that. Can't wait to hear the rest of it.

The reviews on this movie have been amazingly great! I like Whedon, his writing and direction. The music sounds very good to me. I think this movie will be excellent. I'm hoping for a great fun ride.

The comments on that site are ridiculous. How can anyone state that it sounds underwhelming? The Arrival is low-key, but that's probably just what the scene needed. The second piece called The Avengers sounds excellent.

I LIKE IT! Just one thing, is it just me or is there a hint of Henry Mancini's CONDORMAN in that theme?

Anyway, can't wait for the film.

It sounds like the film is going to be a corker, I've read nothing but possitive reviews.

Anyone here seen it yet?

I like the Avengers theme... kinda MEN IN BLACKy in some ways.

Also, in that first track ("The Arrival") I thought I caught a familiar melody... I listened to "Schmidt's Treasure" from CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER again, and realized that the same melody is used there for the glowing cube thing that fueled the movie (I think that same melody shows up in one of the action cues late in the picture too).

Since that same object is said to appear in this film, it looks like a) indeed Silvestri did write a theme for it, despite people complaining otherwise and b) the theme will appear (and might get developed a bit) in this score.
