Personally, my selection would be Frank Capra's 1937 Columbia masterpiece, "Lost Horizon" by Dimitri Tiomkin. It remains among the most magnificent motion picture scores ever written. Charles Gerhardt's superb suite for the RCA film classics series was gorgeous, but the entire score is a monumental achievement and cries out for a modern full length orchestral recording. It's one of Tiomkin's most exquisite achievements. Steve

I'm sure a new recording would cost a bundle.

Not only are very few film music recordings money makers at all, Ghost and Mrs. Muir (lovely as it is) is far less needed than some other Herrmann scores. We got a (very good sounding) release of the complete original film tracks from Varese -- hopefully they reissue their Herrmann at Fox box set master as a standalone CD in their 500 series, since it did fix some issues with their prior release. AND we got a well-performed and great-sounding re-recording by Elmer Bernstein in the 70s, albeit not complete. In a perfect world yes we'd have a new complete recording, but since resources are limited I think it's a much higher priority to newly record good Herrmann scores that are otherwise lost and unavailable, ie. Endless Night or The Bride Wore Black. I could maybe see an exception made for his great score to On Dangerous Ground (its sound quality issues are more significant than The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, though I still find the FSM quite enjoyable). Yavar While I agree that lost and unavailable scores should get the treatment first; I feel that a popular title like Ghost and Mrs Muir would be a worthwhile to revisit merely for the basis of an expanded recording since the previous recording was shorter. I already have the Varese issued original from the Box set but I feel that a popular and more accessible and complete title like this will at least have the chance to make back the money invested E.g. like how Tadlow is investing in their now famous Ben Hur recording which despite having various suites recorded over a numerous times and not to mention the various reissues of its OST album (the last being a definitive great sounding set from FSM) and because it is such an evergreen popular title that it would stand the chance of being quite successful in a complete modern day recording. So, in that sense a lyrical, romantic score like Ghost & Mrs Muir is in disposal of being a good investment to TFC to further contribute to their recording plans. As for On Dangerous Ground, the FSM cd makes it obvious that a new fresh recording is definitively warranted owing to the depreciating quality of those acetate sources. The 'Death Hunt' cue also recorded numerous times on re-recordings and concert hall is just the icing on the cake as the rest of the score is equally rewarding to listen to. I would fund this in a heartbeat. And no one better to conduct this title than a robust conductor like Bill Stromberg. But fingers crossed-lets hope the ball gets rolling with whatever titles the TFC team seem feasible.

"I'd kick in money for a Moby Dick Cantata by Tribute." Why not just reissue the Unicorn recording? Or the Chandos? *** I never knew Tribute had a Facebook page until I saw this thread. Live and learn.

"I'd kick in money for a Moby Dick Cantata by Tribute." Why not just reissue the Unicorn recording? Or the Chandos? I agree, I’m perfectly content with the Chandos recording. As much as I love the Kritzerland ‘Beneath the 12 Mile Reef’ and Varese ‘Journey to the Centre of the Earth’ releases which sound terrific for recordings of their ages, I’d love to hear modern re-recordings of them.

If it was up to me I would love to do THE PRIDE AND THE PASSION ..... Put me down for a copy, it's a tremendous score and would benefit from a new and complete recording. Just out of curiosity, how much would Pride and Passion cost (approx)
