I'd kick in money for a Moby Dick Cantata by Tribute.

Probably the Golden Age score I most want to see in a fresh recording is Rozsa's THE JUNGLE BOOK; however, I wouldn't expect the Tribute team to tackle this one, as they never did a full Rozsa, did they? Their interests seemed to center on Herrmann, Steiner, Korngold, Waxman and Salter/Skinner. Thinking of the Herrmann scores that need a little love, I can't help but wonder what a new recording of THE 7TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD would sound under Stromberg's baton? I'm fairly happy with what we have, but the sound is kind of uneven on the Prometheus original tracks release, and I would love to hear a fresh interpretation in stellar sound. (And, yes, I have heard the Debney version, and it's not my cup of tea.) Also, wouldn't it be great to hear a dynamic modern recording of the complete JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH without those horrible Pat Boone songs getting in the way?

Yavar why are you obsessed with BLACK PATCH and FACE OF A FUGITIVE!!! So far 3 different labels that I know of have rejected the idea of doing these scores. Yes, they are early Goldsmith, but while being interesting hardly set the world on fire musically. And even though the orchestras are not huge the new recording costs would never be covered by the sales ...and believe me I know exactly how many Goldsmith things like HOUR OF THE GUN, QBVII and SALAMANDER sold. The only way these will ever get recorded is if a label is a person as stupid as me were to fund such a venture..... I am so very happy you were that stupid. :-)

Also a complete recording of THE GHOST AND MRS MUIR would be sure shot money maker, being a very colourful and lyrical romantic score that needs to be recorded again its entirety (The Bernstein re-recording is slightly different and shorter) I'd buy it... but if it were a sure shot "money maker", I'm sure somebody would record it. I'm afraid it is not. Trouble is, very few if any orchestral studio recordings make money any more, no classical recordings, no film score recordings, costs are too high, sales too low... just not enough people buying recordings anymore.

Not only are very few film music recordings money makers at all, Ghost and Mrs. Muir (lovely as it is) is far less needed than some other Herrmann scores. We got a (very good sounding) release of the complete original film tracks from Varese -- hopefully they reissue their Herrmann at Fox box set master as a standalone CD in their 500 series, since it did fix some issues with their prior release. AND we got a well-performed and great-sounding re-recording by Elmer Bernstein in the 70s, albeit not complete. In a perfect world yes we'd have a new complete recording, but since resources are limited I think it's a much higher priority to newly record good Herrmann scores that are otherwise lost and unavailable, ie. Endless Night or The Bride Wore Black. I could maybe see an exception made for his great score to On Dangerous Ground (its sound quality issues are more significant than The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, though I still find the FSM quite enjoyable). Yavar
