People in the theater last night applauded the "atomic breath" reveal and at the end credits.

I can't wait for this! Glad they didn't spoil it in the previews.

This may mean a new, even more high-profile, turn of direction for Alexandre Desplat?

Thought the score was absolutely terrific but the movie was a bit lacking. The last thirty minutes were really thrilling but I found the rest to be quite the slog honestly.

Saw it today and enjoyed it.

This review pretty much sums it up for me:

Do his back plates light up when he spews his death ray (or atomic breath)?

My understanding is the for the album, they replaced the live choir with a sampled choir due to SAG costs.

Well then they won't get my money.

Not that those idiots care, mind you.

When I walked out of Godzilla 1998 I said "That was a wretched film, but that score was amazing! I can't wait to buy it".

It took a decade and the creation of my own record label to make it happen.

After walking out of Blahzilla tonight I can only say this -- I wouldn't start my own label to release that score.

wink

Wow, seriously MV? You weren't impressed at all?
I remember the horror of experiencing the 1998 fiasco and hating the whole feel of the score as it conveyed very little sense of threat or dread but was that 'Hollywood action movie' sound. Not the talented Mr Arnold's fault as I'm sure I read he was told to go in that direction for the ultimate GINO experience! This new one on the other hand, for me perfectly balanced the feel of a modern score but also seemed to be channelling the feel of the great classic Ifukube works for the old series. I certainly walked out of the Theatre one happy G fan.

Let us remember the horror and tragedy

before going to see what hopefully will be an actual movie.

I take it by the horror you mean the nostalgia critic himself right?
I really can't stand that guy!

For LP fans, the soundtrack has been released on vinyl:

Really needed a Carl Gottlieb/John Milius script doctoring. The movie is too deadly serious about ignoring its utter absurdity, not nearly as much fun as it should be, and only leaves you wanting more, not because it was so good, but because it was so bland and could have so easily been a little better with just a few clever winks at the audience. Not a complete misfire, but really missed the mark. "Godzilla Interruptious" would have been a better title for it.

Based on what a few others here have said (particularly Charles whose word carries a fair amount of weight with me), I'm quite looking forward to seeing this.

I'm gonna wait a while until the fuss dies down, though. That's just my way.
I might even be able to drag The Missus along. big grin

The score on a technical level is fantastic but thematically lacking. The last 15 minutes is a lot of fun but everything leading up to it is boring as hell. So poorly written and horrifically acted . You can replace Aaron Taylor with a plank of wood and get a more
emotional performance. And enough of the teasing. We paid to see Godzilla lets have him on the screen for more than 10 minutes .

Having read a couple of reviews, this is what's holding me back from rushing out to go and see it... I was expecting King Kong screen time from this movie!

Haven't seen the movie but it's refreshing to hear there is a movie that centers on story and characters and slowly ramps up the action with a grand final. Though it sounds like the journey towards the payoff sucked. No surprise, this directors first movie Monsters was painfully awful. Still I applaud the approach over the senseless non-stop action video games masquerading as movies nowadays.

I thought it was the worst movie I ever saw. No exaggeration. Simply the most boring film, ever made. It's not possible for me to have hated it more, or to have been more disappointed.

Unfortunely, this is what happens when you make a old fashioned film without recurring to a CGI fest, dumb humour and action every 5 minutes. People calls it boring and the worst thing ever? Thank God Spielberg didn't released Jaws and Jurassic Park on this time, they wouldn't have turned into classics.
