Giacchino's done this before for Lost: Via Domus.

And if you go with non-features, it's certainly happened in Japan at least a few times for anime and OVAs. And even more so, the other way around (Final Fantasy VII Advent Children and Sakura Wars The Movie for starters).

Does anyone know if this will get a CD release?

Sorry guys, you get a score by me. At least it was a 120 piece orchestra, not 100.

But I can promise you... it is REALLY cool. I'm very proud of it.

Great! Do you have any idea whether the score will see any sort of commercial release outside of the game?

Don't be sorry. I enjoyed your work on Fringe and I hope this video game soundtrack gets a CD release!

I have not looked into it yet, but I would definitely like to put out a CD, or at least a digital delivery. I am incredibly proud of the work and with such a gigantic orchestra, it would be a shame for it never to see the light of day.

Ditto here, Chad. I remember thinking you'd really amount to something when I met you years ago when I was going to USC (you were rooming with Chris Tilton at the time, IIRC). Turns out I was right! Here's hoping that such a high profile game score will warrant a release. If Varese isn't interested, maybe LLL since they've returned to game scores (and they've got the Trek connection)?

So just to clarify as I'm a little confused..., is this quote from the article not true?

"They even brought in Academy Award winning composer, and frequent Abrams collaborator, Michael Giacchino and his 100-piece orchestra to create an original score for the game."

The article was obviously wrong, and Mr. Seiter himself has posted here that it was him who wrote the score. It isn't the first time an article on the internet has been wrong.

Can't wait to hear this score!

Perhaps it's not even wrong, just incomplete. Perhaps they did "bring him in . . . to create an original score" but he couldn't or didn't want to do it, and suggested Mr. Seiter, or they turned to Seiter, or something along those lines.

I hope Chad does get a chance to release his music.

I wouldn't be surprised that the reporter was told that there would be an original score with a 100 piece orchestra using Oscar-winner Giacchino's themes from the films, and wires got crossed. It happens all the time.

I've had the great good fortune to hear a couple of Chad's cues, and they are wonderful! He has every reason to be proud of them -- just as I am proud of HIM (Disclosure: I taught Chad in high school. We used to have lively discussions about Goldsmith after class!)
Giaccchino's faith in his former assistant is proving well-founded! Keep up the great work, Chad!

Curiously, a TrekCore article on the game published today still states that Giacchino wrote the score.
