Jack Marshall's catchy MUNSTER theme always had more attraction for me than Mizzy's ADDAMS song.

Which is your favorite, the faux-horror version from Season 1, or the groovy-ish surf-twang remake? While I enjoy both, my preference leans toward the original.

This is one of my all-time favorite shows. I never cared for TAF because they reveled in their strangeness. What makes me enjoy The Munsters so much is how un-odd they thought they were. They thought htey were a normal family and just like everyone else. I loved the Paul Lynde episodes.

Anybody notice a similar rhythm in both The Munsters theme and the Danger Man theme (High Wire)? Which came first, I wonder?

Does anyone know if Jack Marshall has a music archive? I contacted his family many years ago, including his famous son, producer Frank, about Marshall's score for THE GIANT GILA MONSTER, and no calls were ever returned. Perhaps RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK and GREMLINS are deemed "acceptable," but THE GIANT GILA MONSTER isn't?

Increbula, I ,also, prefer the original version.

I should probably confess that I did WATCH THE ADDAMS FAMILY much more consistenly than THE MUNSTERS--I just liked Marshall's theme more.

MMM, I had forgotten that Marshall had done the score for gloriously cheesy GIANT GILA MONSTER.

For someone who's not very knowledgeable about old American TV series, what's the difference between THE MUNSTERS and THE ADDAMS FAMILY?

To me, the MUNSTERS scared the crap out of me as a kid. Just looking at the pictures of Herman Munster in the above posts gives me the creeps. I know it was a comedy (and I knew as a kid) but the makeup was soooo well done that I just got weirded out.

I never watched as much of the ADDAMS family but I THINK the difference between the two is thatthe humour in the ADDAMS family was a bit more sophisticated??? Anyone care to correct me?

The Addams Family did have a touch more sophistication in its humour, whereas The Munsters was more sitcommy. Unlike Gomez and Morticia, also, Herman and Lily behaved more like a traditional married couple - although ironically the Addamses looked more human than the Munsters (and as Apu once asked on The Simpsons, if Lily was a vampire and Herman was a Frankenstein's monster-type, how come their son Eddie was a werewolf?).

The Universal Monster family that plays together, stays together. Ask "Woof-woof"

The first season version was my favorite. When I was a kid, I had the AMT model kits of the Munster Coach and Grandpa's Dragula. Also, a very expensive Herman Munster hand puppet that talked when you pulled the string.

If you wade through the stupid :30 commercial, you will hear the great GIANT GILA MONSTER "Main Title" at the 1:07 mark.

You know, I watched this series during its original airing when I was probably around Eddie's age. I loved it then and I love it now. I mean back then I could laugh at gags I couldn't fully appreciate as a kid, sort of the way it was for all the in-jokes in Bugs Bunny cartoons.

In the same vein, I have grown to positively love the funky opening credits music, specifically underscoring the version when Herman leads off by descending the staircase. That bass guitar kills me! And is there a harpsichord somewhere in there?

And in an episode where Lily becomes a model, there is a terrific big band sounding piece that could be characterized as a cross between Mancini & May. The sax line accompanied by muted trumpets sounds something not unlike that heard in Benny Goodman's Stompin' at the Savoy.

It's hard to believe I'm posting about this show and its music. But man, there really was a lot of fun sounding stuff that can only be fully appreciated when you're a wee bit older.

This series was always a childhood favourite, double-bill every Sunday in the UK, a CD release of original (or even re-recorded at a push) would be welcome. The same goes for The Addams Family...

For someone who's not very knowledgeable about old American TV series, what's the difference between THE MUNSTERS and THE ADDAMS FAMILY?

In brief, “The Addams Family” was based on characters created by Charles Addams, who was a cartoonist for “New Yorker” magazine for 50 years, while “The Munsters” was based on Universal Studios’ 1930’s monster creations of Frankenstein (Herman Munster), Dracula (Grandpa Munster), and the Wolfman (Eddie Munster).

Just imagine what they did in only two seasons: 72 shows! Must have been a murderous schedule that makes you appreciate their achievements all the more.

Actually there were only 70 Episodes produced. "The Addams Family" only produced 64 original episodes too. Because they have been syndicated all over the world four four decades it probably seems to some people that more were made.

I never did care for "The Munsters," but was charmed by "The Addams Family" as a child. I could take or leave them now.

In the Dallas-Ft. Worth independent market, Channel 11 used to re-run them from about 1969-1973 at 5:00 in the afternoons. THE MUNSTERS running in the fall and winter, THE ADDAMS FAMILY in the spring and summer. I'd come home from school and watch their great line up

4:30 BATMAN
5:00 THE MUNSTERS/ADDAMS FAMILY
5:30 I LOVE LUCY
6:00 THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW
6:30 THE RIFLEMAN/HAVE GUN, WILL TRAVEL

I loved that show as a kid and as a adult, alot of talent there indeed, not just the main cast but the guest stars as well Paul Lynde, John Carridine etc. today i really appreciate the sly lines spoken in the show, hitting upon society, the establishment and all, often went unotice when i was a kid.the best scene in the whole series i thought was when Herman get's a job in a laundry and screws the whole thing up[shades of I love lucy, candy factory episode]

Like a lot of people, I loved this show as a kid and I still do as an adult.
Fred Gwynne is a total riot that I never get tired of watching.
Great theme.

I always much preferred "The Addams Family". But the surf guitar theme from "The Munsters" was fantastic.

I'd love to have a CD of the original music from "The Addams Family". The released album of re-interpretations is fun (and still by Vic Mizzy). But I'd love to have the music/themes as heard on the show.
