Very sorry to hear this. Great composer and personal favorite. More of his stuff needs to be released.

My custom when a composer dies is to play some of his music that I own or failing that buy some digitally. First Ill replay his masterpiece Search and Probe scores on youtube.

He was an amazing composer and a very sweet man.

Very sad news to hear we have lost another fine composer who wrote a number of my favourite scores. Always loved Brannigan and of course the brilliant tuneful The Train Robbers. Perhaps somewhat underrated by Hollywood but a great talent - will be very much missed.

R.I.P. Dom. I'm not overly familiar with all of his film scores, but from what I've listened to, his best work was for TV, and especially his monumental, iconoclastic scores for "The Outer Limits". That 3-CD box set from La-La Land was a dream come true. I just can't separate the first-season imagery from the music, and vice-versa. It was every bit as important as Conrad Hall's eerie, often nightmarishly stark photography. Perhaps my favourite piece is used at the end of "A Feasibility Study" (although I believe it was tracked from an earlier episode - offhand I can't recall which one), when David Opatoshu infects all his family with his deadly virus to spare them a fate worse than death. Heartbreaking. And I do believe it was our own joan hue who described that cue as "bone-meltingly gorgeous".

Another absolutely flawless CD release was again from LLL - The pairing of A NAME FOR EVIL with the Outer Limits-related THE UNKNOWN. Fabulous music.

I didn't quite take to everything he wrote, but when he was great he was absolutely brilliant.

Dom re-orchestrated his INVADERS music, and apparently composed music later used in NAME FOR EVIL, for sci-fi TVmovie THE LOVE WAR (1970). The movie uses Invaders fx, and originated the gimmick later used by John Carpenter of special glasses that allowed the viewer to perceive an alien hiding in human form.

Its sad that a genius has gone Frontiere was quite special for me, A Name for Evil may only be a tv movie but the score sounded astronomical in the movie, the Outer Limits too was another franchise in which Frontiere was magnificent he left his mark, & not forgetting the iconic, TWWW, Invaders, Frontiere was a master at work I'll really miss Dom.

R.I.P. Dominic Frontiere. Thanks Brother.

Frontiere also composed three unsold 1964 projects for his partners Joseph Stefano and Leslie Stevens:

The Haunted (aka The Ghost of Sierra de Cobre)*
Mr. Kingston
Stryker (aka Fanfare for a Death Scene)

* later tracked in the pilot of The Invaders.

Frontiere is listed as having been born in 1931, so you might want to amend the post title, Jimmy Mac. smile

He must have been a charming fellow, as he was married to St. Louis Rams owner, the charismatic Georgia Frontiere (she kept his name even after the divorce).

Loved his theme for The Rat Patrol, which is a fond memory for me, as the series being on Saturday afternoons. Brannigan was also great fun. What good times they were when Frontiere's Duke Wayne cop score was released along with Elmer's McQ.

His music for The Outer Limits will most likely stand as his crowning achievement. I'm long overdue in revisiting that series.

In fact, Dominic Frontiere should be one of "my" guys, as his sound and his era are ideally suited for my love of 1960s and '70s scores and I owe it to myself to explore his music a LOT more.

Last Child, the "thumbs down" symbol was because of the bad news involved, and most certainly not because I "dont (sic) like the guy". I have nothing but admiration and respect for Mr Frontiere, his musicianship and his body of work.

That's not how it reads when I see the thread. Thumbs Up since you're celebrating his life. If RIP, purple frown face.
Thanks for the edit.

Now I'm really confused! But, a purple frown face it will be, just for you!
