I'm all for an expanded release as well.

I actually tend to like Rosenman's score. It's just the choral burst of "Robocop!" that makes me cringe!

Oh, is that what they're saying? I thought it was just "la-la-la" filler. It would have to be more striking like Robert Goulet singing "Robocop!" (like "Camelot!") for me to notice it. Rosenman added choral music to a few other scores which I've played alot so I guess I'm accustomed to it.
The recordings survived (there's a longer copy floating around) so unavailability isnt the reason why an expanded or complete version wasnt released.

The old Varese release was 30:15 in length.

The score as presented in the film is 56:02.

That's it? I remember there being quite a lot of music for a two hour movie, but I could be wrong! I'd love an expanded release, especially for a rather lengthy cue, if I recall correctly. Hopefully there are a few good alternates available as well!

Well, the time is based upon somebody else's timing who ripped the full score from DVD. But I suspect there will be a little un-used score and some alternates.

Well, since you asked:

1. You don't know if that was the original intent of the composer..

It was his choice and was made based on the fact it was in the form of a overture.

Maybe Robert Townson's not a fan of Leonard Rosenman? (The label's never released anything else by him, as far as I can see.)

Well, they have released more on their "Twilight Zone" (one score) and "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" (two scores) compilations..

Thanks for pointing out my mistake there.

In almost 15 years on this board, this is by far the stupidest thing I've ever read here.

I may have to print that out and put it on my fridge.

Some cues were edited and re-used throughout the film. Those might be examples of not "original intent of the composer."

I would buy a Robocop 2 release.
I don't mind the ROBOCOP chant! It's fun!

two cues are combined here

the last cue before the end credits and the end credits

What you hear is what was written in the full score

the choir has not been included - even though they were in the score and even had the lyrics written for it

I thought the End Credits was the 6 minute overture? Oops, I guess that's why the reconstruction youtube video says "not finished."

I thought the End Credits was the 6 minute overture? Is that why the reconstruction youtube video is incomplete?

that is correct, the end credits is the 6 minute overture

the music in the video is incomplete becaurse i never got to finish it

but the instruments you can hear is what is written in the score

Now that both of the Basil Poledouris-scored "RoboCop" movies have expanded editions, is an expanded "RoboCop 2" possible? Was all the music in the movie (which is way too violent for me to re-watch) on the Varese Sarabande CD?

I know a lot of people hate this score, but I really like it a lot.

Very good idea!
I have difficulties listening to the music of Rosenman, but I liked his contribution to the Verhoeven Sequel. The 06:02 min Overture is a proof. In the beginning the strings are a bit enervating but then the mood suddenly changes with the piano. You need time to come into this score but it is worth giving it a second chance. His most enjoyable music may be the music for Star Trek IV.
Maybe some label will release it expanded in the near future.

And see point number two, Ford. Re-read if necessary. Furthermore it was a reply to somebody else. I don't really give two flips about everybody knowing or not knowing something, or the choice of a composer once an an old release decades ago.

EDIT:

I should have checked the website of Soundtrack! magazine first. They have the information:

If the runtime is based on a PAL version of the film (25 fps), then it should be 4% longer in reality. Runtime should be 64:32 minutes.
