Thanks, "Member." I had read somewhere that there may actually be bits of cues on the Silva that didn't make it to the Fanderson sets. Perhaps that was an error?

This nonsense(error?) is absolutely wrong!
Everything on the Silva-CD's is also included in the magnificent FANDERSON-CD-sets.
After decades, for me a childhood dream came true with these CD-sets!
Many thanks to FANDERSON.
Only one thing is not included in the FANDERSON-CD-set for the first season(Year One).
There is a demo version of the title theme(1:11) by Barry Gray!
It is for unknown reasons only included as bonus material on the British NETWORK-DVD/BR-sets.
I hope this information clarifies everything.

Has the original LP ever been released on disc?

I don't think so. One of the two library tracks is on one of the Easy Project compilations, with a different title. I can confirm details later.

I love the two weirdo library tracks from the LP.

Their real titles (IIRC) are Earthy and Funko.

Oh yeah, baby.

I found Funko for download on Amazon! http://amzn.to/2EYswzD I love that piece SO MUCH. Now maybe some of you folks who missed the LP can revel in the joy of Funko. The future is fantastic, my friends!

EDIT: And Earthy is on that same record! http://amzn.to/2FziLVi

Thanks for the wonderful info, everyone. I'm looking forward to getting the Fanderson sets in the mail, my very depleted wallet notwithstanding. (The cost of each set + the mandatory membership + the shipping for all of that was not small, but I bit the bullet because I'll otherwise be sad when these incredible sets go out of print.)

I still maintain a nostalgic fondness for the qualitatively abysmal season two, and Wadsworth's music is delicious icing on the crappy cake.

Absolutely! The first season is by far better but the second season is what I knew as a kid. Nostalgia makes all things look way better!

In case you hate mp3 files, you can also find "Funko" on this Easy Project compilation:

Forgive me if there's another thread I've missed, but I did do my best Googling to find it. Can Stephen W. or anyone else do a comparison between the newer Fanderson SPACE: 1999 sets and the two Silva releases? Does one miss anything if one doesn't keep the Silva releases in favour of the newer Fanderson releases?

The Silva release is a sampler. The Fanderson release is the complete thing.

The only thing 'wrong' with the new Fanderson release is that it does not contain all the music that was on their original, now long out of print 2CD release. There was at least one track not carried forward, which was a disappointment. I can't remember if the track I'm thinking of was on the Silva disc.

These FANDERSON CD-sets are worth their price in any case. They are made by fans for fans.
Therefore, there can be no disappointment.
There are a lot of people who can't understand that someone is willing to spend so much money on music/CDs.
But music is an emotional affair. What price are you willing to pay for positive emotions that are important to you?
If someone had offered me in the 80s or 90s the complete music of STAR TREK-TOS on CD for $1000.00, I would
have accepted without hesitation. Therefore, the LA-LA LAND CD-box is for me a really price-value release.
I don't know how long you're a fan of SPACE 1999 and the music.
But I had to wait decades for this fulfillment of my childhood dreams!

As a young boy (6-7 years old) I thought that all the things I see on TV are only once viewable on TV,
and I would never see them again. So I tried to save the audio side of these TV shows for my future.
I started to record the movies and TV series episodes with my cassette recorder on audio cassettes(I hope
the youth here know what an audio(compact) cassette is, otherwise look at Wikipedia).
Finally a lot of audio cassettes for all episodes of STAR TREK, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, THE TIME TUNNEL, V, etc. ...,
and of course SPACE 1999.
I didn't know about the existence of something like video recorders at that time in the 70s.
And later these video recorders were, of course, priceless for a child.

First I heard my recordings because of the stories.
Believe me that without seeing the images, you are automatically more focused on the effects and music.
Then I started to repeat portions of the recordings with music just to listen to the music!
This was my way to become a soundtrack fan in the late 70s.
Every phantastic soundtrack release of this old stuff(the LLL ST-TOS-Box, the FANDERSON SPACE-1999-set's,
the GALACTICA and BUCK-ROGERS CD-Sets from INTRADA etc.), let me again and again realize,
how long the way to all this was. 25 years, 30 years, 35 years, or now over 40 years!
From the 70s perspective, it was undoubtedly unimaginable that all these soundtracks could one day
be available in this complete form.
In the year 1982 the CD itself was something like an object from a Sci-Fi series.
Therefore, from the viewpoint of a music fan, it was like a kind of evolution; from homemade recordings to official LPs,
to CD-Re-Releases of LPs, and finally to expanded/complete CDs and CD-sets/boxes.

If I take for example SPACE 1999 :
First my own recordings from TV in the 70's, then in the early 80's I discovered an old STARLOG magazine
(I think it was No.2, with a SPACE 1999 Ep.-Guide) with a advertisement of the RCA-soundtrack-LP on the backside.
So I searched for the SPACE 1999 LP.
After GNP CRESCENDO started with STAR TREK soundtracks in the 80's, I hoped someone will release
the SPACE 1999 scores too, or will release the LP-content on CD.
But nothing for many years!
Then in the 90s, in an issue of the magazine SOUNDTRACK(No?) was a story about Barry Gray and his music.
And there was a picture of a table full of Gray's original recording tapes.
And I thought that on this table are some of my most important musical childhood dreams.
But will/can someone release all this music on CD?
Then came Derek Wadsworth's Promo-CD of his music for the SPACE 1999 - "YEAR-2"-season.
To hear the unused alternate maintitels was one of so many magnificent moments in my life.
Then the wunderful extendet maintitel recordings(arranged by Wadsworth) for SILVER SCREEN.
Not to mention the first moment when I held the absolutely incredible(at that time) Space 1999 2-CD-sets
from FANDERSON in my hands. I came home that day from the dentist and found the YEAR-ONE CD-set in my mail.
Curiously, this Monday was the 13th of September 1999!
Of course I don't want to forget the nice single-CDs of SILVER SCREEN, which I had purchased for the sake
of completeness, too.
And now finally the unsurpassable FANDERSON SPACE 1999 complete CD-sets.

And so it was with many other landmark-soundtrack-releases of the past 25 years:
The enjoyable ARISTA STAR WARS 4-CD-Box(1993), the STAR WARS Special Edition-2CD-sets(1997),
the BATTLESTAR GALACTICA 4-CD-set(1996), the FSM-SUPERMAN-Box(2010) and many, many other releases.
And of course, so it was at the time of 1997 with THE PANTASTIC WORLS OF IRWIN ALLEN 6CD-Box
from GNP CRESCENDO(It was too bad, that the TIME TUNNEL CD not contained my favorite episode-score
of ONE WAY TO THE MOON). Therefore, I hope for a THE TIMME TUNNEL complete release in the near future
through LA-LA LAND. The Monumental Star Trek TOS Box is for me to continue unsurpassed the Mount Everest
of all soundtracks releases.

All this hunting on every new releases of everything from STAR TREK, STAR WARS, SPACE 1999,
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, and many other musical interests during the past decades ...
It seems we soundtrack fans are now living in a "end time"; better than ARMAGGEDON or MAD MAX, right?
Thanks to all the amazing work of soundtrack labels like FSM, INTRADA, QUARTET, LA-LA LAND, etc.,
and of course FANDERSON(Fan Club!).
Now all the life long waiting and hope comes for me to a good end.

I'm sorry, but I'm very sure that all the music from both SILVA SCREEN Single-CDs is also on the new FANDERSON CD-sets.
You should name exactly which piece of music should not be on the FANDERSON CD-set.
The only music track I know is definitely not included in the YEAR-ONE CD-set, is Barry Gray's Demo-Version
of the Main-Theme from the NETWORK-DVD-BR-set.

May be that I have an idea of what a "not carried forward" track you think.
The first 1000 copy YEAR-ONE 2-CD-set(1998) of FANDERSON did not have enough space for all the available music(look the new 3 CD set).
But after SILVA SCREEN had taken over the rights for the music of Bary Gray, the question arose as to
why fans(who already had the 2-CD set) should buy the single CD again. Therefore, SILVA SCREEN decided to add
an unreleased track on the YEAR ONE Single-CD.
It's track 13 - THE SOLARIUM; this was 2004 exclusive on the SILVA SCREEN Single-CD release.
But this track is of course also included on the new SPACE 1999 - YEAR ONE 3-CD-set from FANDERSON;
it's on Disc 2, track 10.
I hope everything could be settled now.

A telemarketer just called and I immediately began telling them how glad I was that they'd called and what a great day it was and how much I was hoping they'd call and that I knew they were going to just LOVE this and I began playing Funko very loud over the computer speakers and set down my phone to let them listen. They hung in there for almost a full minute.

No, the missing track was in my original post: it's the original version of Paradise Lost.

No, the missing track was in my original post: it's the original version of Paradise Lost.

Okay, I am now back at home and take all my SPACE 1999 release versions of my collection to check your information:
The FANDERSON Year-One 2CD-set FANSF7 from 1998
The SILVA-SCREEN YEAR-1 CD FILMCD608 from 2004
The FANDERSON Year-One 3CD-set FANSP18 from 2014

The track PARADISE LOST from the score MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH by Barry Gray.
The booklet of the 1998 FANSF7 clarifies the riddle:
This was a track originally recorded for a specific sequence(BREAKAWAY closing) but unused in the final edit of this episode.

FANSF7 - Track 13 - 0:42(Disc 1) / booklet-page 6:
This track was composed and recorded for the closing sequence but replaced by Track 7 in the final edit.
Track 7 - MAYBE THERE from "BREAKAWAY" - 0:44(Disc 1) / booklet-page 5:
Although composed and recorded for BREAKAWAY'S closing sequence, this track was not used in the final edit of this episode.
It was, however, used for the closing sequence of MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH in place of of Track 13

FILMCD608 - Track 10 - 0:42 / booklet-page 10:
This track was composed and recorded for the closing sequence of "BREAKAWAY" but not used in the final edite of that episode.

FANSP18 - Track 22 - 0:42(Disc 1) / booklet-page 13:
This track was composed and recorded for the closing sequence of "BREAKAWAY" but not used in the final edit of that episode.

Yes COMMANDER WOOLSTON, you are almost right!
Neither the SILVA SCREEN CD(as you suspected) nor the FANDERSON 3-CD set contain the original Version of PARADISE LOST!
The original composed version of PARADISE LOST is only included in the FANSF7 2-CD set!
The SILVA SCREEN CD and new FANDERSON 3-CD set only contains the replacement version from BREAKAWAY!

I have compared both tracks(7&13) on Disc 1 of FANSF7, and I have to say that the difference is fortunately not all too big.
Barry Gray wanted to complete the episode score of MATTER with the same melody he had already composed for BREAKAWAY.
Therefore, this track can be considered an alternative version(Track 13) of the original(Track 7).
There is really only a slight variance. The MATTER version is a bit more in the musical style of the MATTER episode score.
A very small bit in the style of Track 11&12(the "TERRA NOVA" landscape theme) to hear in Track 13 from 0:26 to 0:35.
And the MATTER version is a little bit faster as the BREAKAWAY version.
Why the MATTER version was replaced by the very similar BREAKAWAY version is not clear to me,
and there is also no explanation in the booklets.
And finally there is of course no explanation in the booklet of the FANSP18, why this original version is not included
in this release.
And certainly no one will die because of the lack of this alternate/variation track.
The 3-CD set for me is now still a 99.98 percent perfect release rather than a 99.99 percent perfect release
(because of the lack of title-theme demo track from the NETWORK DVD/BR sets).

Well, anyway, it was a good opportunity to listen to the old FANDERSON FANSF7 2-CD set and the new FANSP18 3-CD set.

Actually I wanted to listen to the CDs FINAL FANTASY(Elliot Goldenthal), EARTH 2(David Bergeaud),
THE MYSTERIOUSE ISLAND OF CAPITAN NEMO(Gianni Ferrio), DAMNATION ALLEY(Jerry Goldsmith),
THE MYSTIC WARRIOR(Gerald Fried) and VISIONS AND VALUES(Gerald Fried) over the past few hours.
But there's going to be another time for these CDs.

Hey there. So, is this the only track that is exclusive to the Silva discs? It's not available anywhere else?

No!
Track 10 of the SILVA SCREEN CD is identical to track 22 (DISC-1) from the new FANDERSON 3CD set!
Thus, the SILVA SCREEN CD does NOT have an exclusive piece of music!
All tracks of the SILVA SCREEN CD are included in the FANDERSON 3CD set.

Is there some reason, "Score-Man-X" (The Unknown?) why you can't spell "Silva" correctly? It does rather undermine the meticulous detail of your comparisons.

I'm sorry, my mistake. You're right, of course!
In the last few weeks I hear the 2-CD set '"WARRIORS OF THE SILVER SCREEN" by SILVA SCREEN(1997).
Seems to have caused me some kind of brainwashing. I really only noticed it now.
I'll correct this right away. Thanks for the note.
