The song sounds like Elfman doing "The Sound Of Silence," even though he's not credited as a co-writer. I'm not a fan of Lana Del Rey, but like some of her stuff. This just kinda does nothing for me, other than reminding me of Simon & Garfunkel.

I absolutely agree.

A very dull Elfman score. Pity.

Hey, of course! Sorry if I come across as a stubborn, cranky kind of guy.
I am that guy - but still...

I'm having an OK film music day (stuck in 1993 forever, it seems), so everything is awesome right now. I will inevitably venture into more recent territory and become more sarcastic and entitled, don't worry. Haha.

NP - Matinee's end title cue (seriously, this theme!)

I LOVE that theme!

Going by those samples, this score is rather bland and dull. Damn. :[

I think this is VERY beautiful stuff! This is the type of Elfman I prefer these days, and to see him employ that style in a Tim Burton film couldn't be better!

Bring on the soundtrack CD already!

Listened to a bit of this at work today. I guess he liked the Hitchcock score more than we did.

Boy, am I hoping for a disc release of this...if not, seems like a sad end-of-an-era kind of thing for a pairing as big as Burton/Elfman.

Maybe I just have to wait another 20 years for the next big Elfman/Burton box set wink

Hang on a sec. A few weeks ago the film site had about 50 minutes of DE score to listen to, but
now you can BUY about 20 mins of it!!!

I don't think that the film FYC cues summed up to 50 minutes but if so, most of it were really short tracks that weren't really interesting outside the film. Yes, we only get 20 minutes here but it's much more condensed and I just think it's a really low-key score with a lot of short tracks.

However, it doesn't mean I won't look forward for a LaLaLand edition in ten years...smile

Wow...did we listen to the same score? I thought it was excellent in the film.

Playing the score FYC now, which runs just under 39 mins but includes the Lana Del Ray title song, it would be a real shame if they don't release a pressed CD for a director/composer collaboration that is heading towards 30 years now!
My hope is for a European pressing similar to the Promised Land situation.
I remember having a smile when I read (in the excellent booklet notes for LaLaLand's Restless CD) how Gus Van Sant moaned about Elfman always giving Tim Burton the grand symphonic/choir treatment for his films, while his own scores got the low-key, minimal treatment.
It could be argued Dan E has given Burton a GVS kinda score for Big Eyes.
A lot of it is in that Van Sant/Errol Morris style we've heard from Elfman before, although there are some lovely tracks in amongst the cool vibe too.
I haven't seen the film yet, so my comments are purely from the standalone music listen.
The perfect situation for me, would be 30 minutes of score with some added songs/source from the film, in a pressed CD format. Not asking for much, is it?

You know there is something odd at film music nowadays when latest score of one of the biggest partnership between composer and director (and one that even people not into film music recognizes) gets a soundtrack release with less than 30 minutes of scores and just in digital format.

I like the music available on the weinstein company site, and I'd love a proper cd release of it. In the site there are 27 songs, the digital soundtrack has only 6 DE songs.
Hope it'll be available soon

There are 27 score tracks on the FYC promo too...plus the Del Ray song.
I'm getting quite a Thomas Newman vibe from much of the score.
Reminds me of last year when I played Saving Mr Banks all over Christmas.

There's a fair bit of music on the soundtrack release not on the FYC website, including the main titles and the music for the postscript.

I think if you combine the two you have the complete score.
