Well its new years eve here down under and I was wondering if anyone else breaks out Carol Lynely's version of Auld Lang Syne for a few plays. As Roddy McDowall says "I rather like it"
Happy New Year All!

Yes Steve, I'm in Melbourne with an expected temperature forecast of 39C (102F) and with the family all out tonight I will be having an Irwin Allen disaster movie marathon. I will start off playing my fave movie THE TOWERING INFERNO on Bluray at 8.45pm then seguing into the BD of THE POSEIDON ADENTURE. I will have it cued to commence so that at the exact minute and second of the stroke of midnight when Auld Lang Syne peels out in the dining room in the movie... we will have moved into 2016!

I know, I'm a geek!! LOL

Happy New Year to all Members of this forum smile

I'm waiting for a copy that could come any day in the mail now! It's coming from the U.K. and I'm in the states, so I'm not sure how long that takes? But I'm excited!

I sure as hell wish that I had picked up a copy of this when I had the chance. Maybe Quartet will rerelease it.

Actually, he says, "I rather fancy it."

I ordered it when it came out, expecting "Towering inferno" or "Earthquake". I played it when I received it, was sadly disappointed, and haven't played it since. Some fun stuff but mostly it's the music I didn't care for in TI either. You're not missing much.

Don't care for the score. Really only purchased this for nostalgia reasons. I ended up selling my sealed mint copy so I could fund other scores I desperately wanted to have. (La La Lands EPIC Dances with Wolves and Braveheart expansions.)

I own both. Both R excellent releases, archive editions, I wouldn't sell either not even for $100+ each. Williams music is never for sale once purchased.

I'm still waiting for my copy. To tell you the truth I'm getting worried about it.

If it's coming from overseas, it may take a while. I'm sure you'll get it. smile

Glad to hear it !!

Is that the last of your Williams soundtracks you needed, henry?

Also, let us know what you think of it. My opinion is, although a little thin-sounding in spots, this is probably the best we'll ever get for the original recordings of "The Poseidon Adventure", and is an improvement on the previous mono release, although that was nice to have too, especially since it came with Williams's "The Paper Chase" soundtrack.... smile

Thank you! This is the last of his soundtracks, but I might also collect his Boston Pops albums now. Right now I'm expected his WE WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS album. BTW, how's your collection coming along?smile

Oh, the same. My collection is on a short "hiatus" for the time being while I take care of a few other expenses, but soon I'll be back on track. I only have three or four more to go anyway, so I'll get them eventually -- mark my words! smile

The Baton: A John Williams Musical Journey - Episode 28 - The Poseidon Adventure
https://thebatonpodcast.podbean.com/e/episode-28-the-poseidon-adventure/

John Williams reteamed with Irwin Allen for the 1972 action film The Poseidon Adventure, a risk-taker of a movie that worked out well for everyone involved and officially created the disaster-film genre. Williams does well in creating a strong opening but keeps his orchestra subdued throughout the film to keep the atmosphere of doom and gloom always present, with little sense of hope. Host Jeff Commings is on hand to detail the highlights from the score and how the film set a few precedents. Take a journey through hell—though we promise you'll enjoy every minute of it!

Wrong thread, but...

Nonetheless, what's the general assessment on the improvement in sound from the first La-La Land Records release to the John Williams Disaster Movie Soundtrack Collection edition?

Ed: Improved. Less mag wow. More clarity.

So I gathered from the samples. Thanks for confirming! This score has excellent orchestrations I'm really excited about hearing more clearly.
