Don't get me wrong La La's first volume of TNG was great, but it left off some great music. In the latest Blu-Ray of Season 5 it is revealed more Trek music is coming, which hopefully means TNG is coming and it got me thinking of past episodes that I'd love to hear on a VOL2 of TNG from La La.
Here are some of mine:
Tin Man Family Power Play The Survivors (yes, some of this was on Vol 1, but all the great action music with the Phantom ship was left off- Perhaps it can be included in a bonus section) The Most Toys A Matter of Time The First Duty Schisms True Q Gambit Journey's End
Great suggestions and I agree about Peak Performance. I'd also love more music from Conundrum too.
For "Power Play" if it's included I hope the music is included when Troi, Data and O'Brian attempt to take control of the ship. Then the music that plays when those three take Worf, Keko, and Picard hostage and to the cargo bay.
This definitely helps with this project. SOOOOO much TNG music has been released already so we want to make sure this next volume (and possibly last for TNG) covers the rest of the best. Right now we don't know if it will be 2 or 3 discs.
We will not be including any Ron Jones music, though. I think FSM covered that.
A second vote for "Power Play." I was watching this on the blu-ray and thought, "This has to be on the LaLa Land 3CD set," and then I realized it wasn't.
I don't remember George Romanis's "Too Short a Season" being all that memorable, but it's an interesting oddity that might be worthy of a couple tracks.
Tin Man - This is available from GNP Crescendo as part of their TNG Volume 4. It contains scores by Jay Chattaway.
As for the other scores, I would love to see all of those on your list!
-Rick O
True, but having a remastered Tin Man would be great. Jay spoke on the Blu-Ray about how he wrote some early versions and was told to tone it down. It would be interesting to hear some unreleased never before heard stuff like this!
Coming of Age Conspiracy (including the Horatio music) Peak Performance The Defector The Hunted Family Conundrum (especially the teaser cue before the main title) Tapestry
Jay Chattaway's "Power Play" is the one must-have on a 2nd volume of TNG music from La-La Land. That, plus more of Dennis McCarthy from season 1 and 2, such as "Arsenal of Freedom" and "Peak Performance". I think a second volume should focus on episode scores new to disc, not revisit those already included on previous volumes. I love that suite from "Conundrum" on Volume One, but I just think having a few more cues would really be a worthwhile use of disc space on Volume Two.
Coming of Age Conspiracy (including the Horatio music) Peak Performance The Defector The Hunted Family Conundrum (especially the teaser cue before the main title) Tapestry
"The Defector" is a Ron Jones score and thus available on the FSM box set.
I don't remember George Romanis's "Too Short a Season" being all that memorable, but it's an interesting oddity that might be worthy of a couple tracks.
It's not that bad, I recently watched the epsiode again. I think it should be included to close the book on the Trek composers!
I would also vote for some more music from "Relics", the episode which dealt with Scotty's return. On the first set there was only half of the beautiful underscore for the talk of Scotty and Picard on the old bridge in the holodeck. It would be great if this could be revisited.
Another suggestion would be "Family" where the Borg story arc comes to a close. McCarthy was at his best in such emotional episodes.
I would defenetly welcome some more Dennis McCarthy scores of the first two seasons!
If this will be (probably) the last TNG-release, a 3-CD set would be very welcome, so we can get a big portion to the end!!!
And please dont release any scores that are allready released by Crescendo, because there is so much great stuff, that wasnt released at all.
By the way: Does there exist any demo or extended versions/recordings of McCarthy`s great alternative Main Title (or "Picard`s theme", as some call it)? There was a version on the ENCOUNTER OF FARPOINT release of Crescendo Records, but maybe there is some more?!
I DO love this theme, because its truly heroic and just a fine melody.
Hope, it will also presented on the next LALA TNG-set again.
With GNP holding the rights to Tin Man, it might be a bit impossible for LLL to get rights to release it. MV can correct me if I'm wrong....
If GNP does hold their TNG rights I hope they re-master their catalogue because some of those discs - including the Chattaway - sound baaaaaad. Vol. 3 and 4 definitely need a re-vamp. And Encounter At Farpoint while they're at it.
In fact, how about a 3-disc set from GNP containing remastered editions of those albums - in addition to the proposed LLL?
